Haley wins with 1,274 votes out of 2,030 votes cast. Trump comes in 2nd with 676.
Yes, you read that right. Out of a city with a population of 678,972 people, only 0.3% of the population voted in the Republican primary.
For all intents and purposes D.C. is a Democrat party company town.
And just in case anyone is wondering if there's some quirk that means low Dem turnout as well...nope.
Around 111k voted for a Dem candidate in the 2020 primary. 1,559 voted for Trump.
In the general there was higher turnout, with around 350k voting for Dems, and 20k voting for Trump.
Oh, and around forty percent of people in DC work for the government, too.
Now imagine you’re a conservative facing a jury trial in D.C. Zero chance you’re getting a fair trial in that town. And they know it.
J6 protesters are political prisoners lynched for petty vengence.
There is no other way to explain how even the people who didn't break anything and were let in by the staff opening the doors have been arrested, and railroaded by the court.
Or how the fuck can the FBI justify arresting, prosecuting and condemning people who were unambiguously journalist, documenting not inciting, but with the wrong political opinions.
Pretty much what’s happening to Trump in NYC
make dc an administrative zone again.
Trump should do as the pharaohs - move the capital to Memphis, Tennessee.
EDIT: My apologies. This is what happens when eurotrash have nothing to contribute to a conversation on US politics but memes. I should know better, watching that youtuber guy doing it all the time here.
would that not just shift the problem from DC to wherever though?
Pretty much, America needs to decentralise HARD by removing most of the federal government, agencies and closing the loopholes where being elected is a full time gig and not something you do part time so you're in touch with the real world.
Most Senators and Reps spend the majority of their time in office begging for campaign/re-election $.
All media should be required to carry campaign messages gratis, with no favoritism. Production values/costs should be limited to a particular dollar amount so the uber rich can't dig into their cavernous pockets in their attempts to con voters.
Right. I won't hold my breath.
In my magical fairyland that will never ever happen, the house of reps contains 1 rep per 100k people, citizens only, selected each year via lottery of all registered voters in each district. If selected, you serve your two-year term and are paid fifty times the federal poverty level, tax free, each year. Nobody can be selected twice and the penalty for corruption/bribery is crucifixion.
Nah, it's more valuable than most comments.
A coliseum
With lions and shit.
A circus Maximus if you will.
Just from a casual standing, putting all your core government functions in one place is generally considered a bad idea
Will that not just spread rather than contain the plague?
It's just swamp people.
