I'm curious what you guys wanted to play and disappointed. For instance I hate BG3 but I expected it to be exactly how it turned out so I can't be disappointed in it.
My top disappointment was Dark Envoy, it's an RPG made by Event Horizon the guys that did Tower of Time, I like Tower of Time and I recommend it but Dark Envoy is just boring. The story is uninteresting and predictable, dialogue is just awful, it's the equivalent of punishing high school students to do a play they don't want to and are given the barebones of a play. Combat is repetitive and the game is very easy on hard. Except graphics Tower of Time is miles ahead Dark Envoy. The pros, the game is not woke.
Another disappointment was Total War: Warhammer 3, It came out in 2022 but I only played it last year. I did not complete the main campaign and I can't say I like the new factions or the new siege combat. I think is a step down from 2.
It was probably more disappointing as I didn't really BUY any games last year, mostly stuck with the games I had that kept getting updated
I would personally say, even though I never bought or played it, Starfield just because it represented the full fall of Bethesda. Thanks to that game I have NO HOPE of ES6 being good...
They had about 250 people working on Starfield and 0 talent, why did they need so many people for 1 game? Unless something changes and they come up front and showcase something amazing ES6 will be trash. I still want ES6 to be good but I'm guessing it will be an ugly feminist simulator with swords.
I look forward to the upcoming "nexus mods takes down all dewoking mods" headlines.
And people being shocked about it
I tried it on gamepass. It played like a stripped down fallout 4 that kept their worst ideas and cut a lot of the quality of life features. The characters, setting and story couldn't carry it either. The only interesting part was the ship building, but that had issues with labyrinthine interiors, and a lot of the modules were pointless anyway. I can't even recommend trying it, since it's just a waste of time and you'd be better off playing something else.
I just go by the comparison that any future Bethesda game has to AT LEAST be half as good as Fallout 4/Skyrim with mods at launch. Can't do that ain't buying it.
I do the same with Battlefield since I used to love that series, benchmark there is Battlefield 4 but may comprise with 1
Assassin's Creed, at least as fun as Black Flag but if they bring back Revelations multiplayer then I might be tempted.
I'd settle for launch Skyrim without mods at this point. At least the world was interesting to explore.
Only reason I go a bit further is I want them to actually PLAY their game to improve it as it's really obvious a lot of these devs don't play the games they are making.
Some of the games I play have at least one dev that is playing their game so they notice if something isn't working or not fun and will log it to be fixed. These guys it takes months if not years to fix basic shit.
Did you pirate BG3? I’m surprised by the amount of people that seemed tha have bought it. You can have gay bear sex in it, that’s fucking disgusting.
I don't give money to those that hate me and wants me and all that look like me dead.
Speaking of that, Kyle the editor of the babylon bee bought that game for one of his sons knowing it was pushing gender ideology. We're at the point where devoted Christians are buying gay and gender propaganda for their kids. I mentioned before that mass immigration is how the west dies, modern day Sodom required modern day solution.
the most disappointing thing about 2023, gamingwise, was the fact that there was not a single game I picked up that was worth remembering.
I liked Chaos gate and Boltgun. We also had the resident evil 4 and system shock remakes.
think chaos gate was 2022 but yeah that was a good one, im hoping for expansions with enemies and stories from other factions
I didn't get the dlcs but watching gameplay and reading reviews of it say they don't add enough to be worth it.
It was Baldurs Gate 3 for me, besides all of the controversies behind it the only fun aspect of the entire game was the world and the combat.
In any RPG the writing is paramount and in BG3 it was mediocre for the majority of it, the best part was Act 2 but that was stupidly short. At some points it was just absolutely insufferable, especially when you add VA's for all sorts of characters which purely just felt like quotas into the mix.
Act 2 was definitely the best. First act was decent but it had some issue and third act where you should get some big reveals was dumb.
I didn't play it but I have friends who were really into Diablo 3 that really didn't like Diablo 4
Assasin's Creed Revelations. I was sold a lie from the hype, but some basic research would have saved me the $5-6 bucks or whatever it cost.
Payday 3. (I didn't buy it, I was gifted it by a buddy so our old PD2 group could play together.) PD2 is the game that just wouldn't stay down, and whose story just kept. getting. wonkier. (PD2 started as a bank heist game, and ended up about saving the President from inter-dimensional aliens who were known to ancients as the nephilim.) Payday 3 took all that... and just ripped the flesh off of the bones, and sold the still-bloody skeleton to you as a living, breathing thing.
Forza Motorsport I suppose, because it's the only game I've ever moved on from because I just can't get it to run on my PC well enough to play. I'm not the typical PC gamer that counts every frame and pixel and goes into an unstoppable rage at a single moment of imperfection. I have low standards and still it was that bad.
Albeit, I wasn't that high on the game to begin with. The only other 2023 release I can think of I played was The Outlast Trials, which I thought was excellent.
Almost all of them.
D4, Starfield, BG3, and a handful of others... I can't remember them. That's how pathetic it is. They're just so un-noteworthy that I can't even remember their existence, much less being disappointed in them.
Apex Legends finally burned me out. Absolutely zero fucking work being done on the game in comparison to the amount of people working on it and how big it is. Billion dollar game that gets updated once every 2 months for balancing, every 4 months for a new season. And those seasons barely changed shit. And then expecting me to fork out hundreds every few months for a shitty rare skin.
I did find new enjoyment in Hunt:Showdown. Nice middle ground between realism and fantasy. Not annoyingly slow and broken like Tarkov but not full run and gun fantasy like CoD either.
Funny how 2024 seems to be shaping up well already.
Helldivers 2 is great, I'm excited for Expeditions (mudrunner spin off) Last Epoch is great so far, and I'm having fun with Nightingale Early Access.
Hopefully it stays good this year.
Was Lost Ark 2023, or earlier? Good thing it was free to play.
The progression of PSO2NGS. I dropped it last summer, and the story has gone nowhere since. They introduced the "Starless," the new dark force in the universe (probably born of Profound Darkness), but most of them seem to be reskins of the DOLLS-type enemies (which we find out were basically artificial Darkers/Falspawn, created in order to reawaken Photonic potential in ARKS/produce a Supreme Defender that could take on the Starless). No new locations have been added whatsoever since the first chapter finally ended. They've teased an upcoming area and an exoskeletal combat unit, but that update won't be until this summer. But the more I keep seeing, the more disappointed I'm getting. Lame fashions, lame collabs, lame events (literally plotless point shop hunts). The characters are not noteworthy at all, and the actors (in english) sound absolutely dead inside (where I KNOW some of them have actual talent for emoting).
Spider-Man 2 was pretty terrible. I expected shoehorned in woke shit and for the most part I could ignore it but I walked right into the mission where you’re forced to sit and watch the two fags kiss and it just put a sour taste in my mouth.
Not to mention the story was ass, Symbiote Spidey was wasted, weird MJ power trip levels where she’s suddenly more powerful than spider-man, and the lack of improved gameplay just cemented that I’m never going to play another insomniac game.
