Part of the backstory for Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Does any of this sound familiar?

I have to believe Yoshiki Tanaka read Heinlein.
It'd be a fair bet that LOGH was inspired in part by Heinlen's work yeah.
I need to read it. I do love Heinlein.
Starship Troopers is something that, once you've read it, you realize just how much other sci-fi is ripped off of it.
One of if not my favorite sci-fi book. Although I wonder how much of that is due to having been in the military and coming from a military family. I do love the ideals as well as the idea of earning citizenship
Those kinds of books are both marvelous and depressing. Foundation being the forerunner to everything from Dune to 40k to Episode I is amazing, given it's three ok-ish short stories.
It's also something, that once you read it, and then compare it to the Lefty reviews, realize how shite the left has been for how long. When a Canuck hippie becomes Heinlein's protege and writes the best defense of his work (rah, RAH, R.A.H.!), it gets very hard to take the whinging about him seriously.
Starship Troopers is so deep that it has about 8 different layers, including a self-deprecating layer where the main character is essentially making fun of how glamorous the writer makes his life look.
