Just a fun question since we are in December and Christmas is my favorite time of year. Here are mine:
Listen to the Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole Christmas albums
Watch A Christmas Carol (prefer the 30s version but will watch any version that’s respectful to the source material, so definitely not that garbage FX version)
Watch the Twilight Zone episode Night of the Meek (80s version remade this and it’s good too but I prefer the original)
I used to watch Hallmark during this time of year to support it due to the attacks it would get but now I support Great American Family since they said they want to appeal to a traditional audience.
I sing on the choir at my church and a week from Sunday we are doing are Christmas program which is followed by a chili cook-off being the good Texans that we are.
Finally, since the winter weather in North Texas is bi-polar with constant shifts between cold and warm weather, if it’s a warm Christmas my family will cook out and smoke some brisket or something
What about y’all?
It’s just not Christmas until I see Hans Gruber fall from the Nakatomi Tower.
More seriously, I’m trying to do hot buttered run, eggnog, onion dip (from Alton Brown’s recipe) and honey-siracha Chex Mix during the season.
Also, I should pull down “Pale Gray For Guilt” and start re-reading that.
My man, another person who watches Die Hard for Christmas. I add the first Lethal Weapon to that.
What is that book about? Sounds like good Eggnog. I really need to rewatch Die Hard
“Pale Gray For Guilt” is one of John D. MacDonald’s Travis McGee series novels, and much of it takes place during the Christmas season.
McGee’s best friend is killed, and McGee goes after the people responsible. There’s a lot of MacDonald’s cynicism about what Christmas has become built in…
I need to check that out!
Used to. There would always be a whole family Christmas Eve celebration at my grandfather's house. But things are... not good between me and my family right now, after he passed away last year.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you and your family reconcile
I go out with my wife and cut down our Christmas tree. We listen to Christmas carols and hymns on the way (Christian songs only). Afterwards we make homemade cocoa and decorate the tree.
Plus mass and other christmastide events in our parish.
Sounds nice!
Every year I bake a cake and add an additional layer to it. Things are getting out of hand, send help.
What started the tradition of the cake?
It was originally just a two layer chocolate cake but the kids starting requesting additional chocolate related cakes but I can't be bothered to do this more than once a year, so I just added them in layers. We're up to eight now.
Chocolate sponge
Brownie
Chocolate Torte
Chocolate chip cookie
Chocolate swirl cheesecake
Fudge
Marble
Oreo
Layers of mousse in between and covered in ganache.
Diabeetus
Can I have the recipe?
Christmas steaks are a great idea.
Honey baked ham or GTFO.
I do love honey baked ham
Christmas tree, decorations, Christmas dinner, pretty standard stuff
Nothing wrong with that
Nothing big on my side. We decorate the tree, decorate the house, put up the lights. My kids are going caroling and we watch home alone and die hard. I have this train set that keeps growing year by year, we would normally set it up during Christmas, it looks more impressive then it sounds. However we have a new puppy that destroys everything so no train this year. I just hope the tree will be ok.
We also watch a lot of Christmas movies.
Sounds like fun! Your church do anything big or a midnight service for Christmas?
They have a special service for Christmas, seems fun to be honest. However it has little to no singing :) that is very unfortunate.
Usually it's mostly go hang out with the relatives and enjoy a big Christmas meal together to catch up. Fortunately most of my family aren't batshit insane....correction they aren't LEFTIST batshit insane.
I'm trying to start a tradition of playing this throughout December.
Nice song! Thankfully my immediate family is on the right. Unfortunately with my extended family not so much.
Normally make egg nog from scratch, midnight mass, Christmas roast, totally ignore new years, big party at church for epiphany, and then do a tree burning party at the end of the season.
I do all that minus the arguments. And I’ve only seen one white Christmas but it sounds like a great time
airing of grievances.
Ha!! I’m reading that in the voice of George’s father
Bah humbug. That's my motto!
My mom always puts a pomegranate as a stocking stuffer and Christmas Day is presents and movies all day. A thanksgiving tradition that we do is cook kielbasa in the turkey pan so it cooks in the drippings
That sounds great!
I still haven’t seen the Santa Claus. Gonna try to watch it this season
We take the dog for a nice long run at the park Christmas Morning so he doesn't eat all the wrapping paper, but aside from that we haven't had any real traditions in a while.
Mr Bean Christmas special. I don't even know when I started watching it but around Christmas it's always a great watch. Eating tons of clementines is another thing almost all Winter but makes me think of Christmas first since it's usually around that time also. Oh and the usual celebrating Christmas with the family.
I love Mr Bean. His jazzy rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is one of my favorites
I am fortunate enough to be on good terms with my extended family and cousins. we've been doing the same get together pretty much every year almost since I was born.
there was one year when we were little where my brother got a hold of an r-rated Christmas comedy that we watched in secret on Christmas Eve. watching that same movie every Christmas Eve became a tradition among our generation in the family for years, but it finally got old a couple years ago. now we hang out drinking beer on Christmas eve, while each one of us tries to sneak away to put our presents under the tree.
Sounds like fun. I get along with my extended family but I just don’t discuss politics with them. My first cousin and I didn’t talk again until summer of 21 because we got into an argument over January 6 and I said that he glorifies criminals like Floyd.
