Trudeau Government moves to regulate podcasts

I think a lot of it goes further than that. They're prepping for inevitable economic catastrophes, that they helped to set the foundation for (either through inept incompetence or deliberate malice).
And they've been moving all the pieces on the board quite plainly for a few years now, leading up to these next few even more blatant and predictable moves.
I agree, it is curious that they're deliberately naming podcasts. I don't know if they somehow think that sounds less threatening or if they're being accidentally transparent about who they intend to target.
I suppose one "advantage" in targeting Podcasts specifically is that it covers both uploaded media and streaming in one go, and content that typically focuses more on talking points than entertainment.
And it goes with Canada's active playbook of trying to close in on news media that doesn't completely cave into the government's agenda. And does so without explicitly stating that they're going after "unsanctioned" news outlets.
Does this mean we can finally stop hearing about Fox News and how all those right-wingers listening to Faux News are destroying America?
Can't have any channels that aren't controlled by the regime
Back in the 90s the gay commies of that era hated "talk radio". That was the only broadcast channel not controlled by them and it was where conservative content thrived. Because, surprise, people who commuted to work in the morning tended to lean more conservative.
Even talk radio is all cucked up here in 2023.
Guess the companies could just move to the US then. Unless Trudeau also tries to build a great firewall. But I think that would even upset a lot of the sheep still voting for him
The worst impact these feeble efforts might have is to demonetize Podcasters who reside in Canada, and maybe block/target anyone they find is donating to "naughty" non-Canadian podcasters.
Also, they'll of course try to target some of the bigger names who have contracts with larger podcasting companies.
Really retarded and does suck for those who'd be impacted, but it is hilarious if these rejects actually think their efforts will do much to clamp down on what amounts to large audio files that can be uploaded almost anywhere.
Edit: Took a second look, realized how off some of my information was. It's specifically targeting big names and hosting/streaming services. So their real goals are more about trying to control and censor those companies and their content. Which is both more dangerous and weaker at the same time.
Wait, that is their rationale? That is the dumbest shit I've ever seen in my life, even from the Nazis in the North.
They tried to regulate the official government record of parliament openly applauding a Nazi with a standing ovation in their chambers last week.
Now they want to stop their citizens sharing their thoughts on such an event?
Sounds like a clear cut case of fascism to me. The UN should get some Peacekeepers involved lest they be known as Nazi sympathisers by proxy for allowing it.
Regulating broadcasts is only justified by the technical limitations of broadcasting: namely, that there's only so much spectrum to go around, so you must license out slots so they don't overlap and get reduced to gibberish. Nothing on the internet broadcasts once you get past the node level (i.e. sending data to all your neighbours as you try to find an efficient path to the eventual recipient), so nothing on the internet can legitimately be regulated as a broadcast.
Is that even necessary? We tolerate it now, but there was a Free For All period in the past. I wonder if the market would solve spectrum allocation better - OR in areas where every frequency sounds like an annoying CB radio channel, people would do something more productive like read a book. The case is stronger for emergency spectrum reservations and ATC. That can also be done at the state level with interstate agreements. Feds don't need to be involved.
The free-for-all ended in 1912 with the Radio Act. It didn't survive until the first commercial radio station, let alone today where two-way wireless channels are ubiquitous.
When even a feminazi like Atwood bitches about your bs, Trudeau is getting the boot sooner or later
Yeah, but the point is to fight in places you can win. Canada, the UK, Australia, etc, are all fucked beyond fixing at this point, short of outright civil war and hanging every leftist.
They'll either have a civil war or genocide at the rate things are going.
it's already in the effective early stages, erasing everything white people have done in favor of dindus and sand people. Portraying white people as evil.
Man, if only they didn't give up their guns...
I got out of Canada in 2021, and will certainly blast this garbage law on my podcast.
I think he's really only a Canadian in name only at this point. Like most that achieve success.
I saw him tweet this week that he's touring Europe.
