I almost can’t believe that people like this (self-described YIMBYs. People who actively want to live in little boxes) exist, but then, I’ve met a few people with these beliefs, lately. “YIMBYs are useful idiots of the development lobby”. MacroBusiness, the author, often makes good points. (archive.is)

They lie about being a "YIMBY" anyway. Go try to put a church they find racist, or a straight men bar, something that would piss off your savage natives (I can't remember what they call them in Oz), or a right wing campaign center. I bet they very quickly become NIMBYs for that.

Besides, not gatekeeping your own neighborhood is stupidity.

Abos. Or Abbos. Take your pick on the spelling, lol.

Never “First Nations”, though, lol…

Don’t give our new elites that one!

Yeah I'm not giving them First Nations or any of that nonsense. Hence "savage natives".

Here for the US, I just use Indians, and the only people I've ever heard offended are white people. I was at a museum in New Mexico a few years ago and there's an guy that works there doing a short tour and kept calling himself and the people Indians. Someone asked him a question and said "Native American" and before he even answered their question he told them Indian was fine. Most of them in Oklahoma use the term Indian. So why do I need to go to "First Nations", "Native American", "Indigenous Tribes", etc. when the actual people ask me to say Indian?

This is always the way…

See also: the “Indigenous Voice to Parliament”. Supported by white people who live in cities and claim Indigenous ancestry. Largely opposed by most full-blood non-bureaucrats actually living out there, in remote areas, on-ground…

Funny that. Just makes it all the more obvious who is actually calling the shots, there (it ain’t the full-bloods).

But if you point this out, “You’re rayciss!”, naturally…

We've gotten to the point where not gatekeeping other people's neighborhoods is stupidity, and that's the problem.

For whatever reason, people don't want to invest in infrastructure any more. Add in the immigration crisis, and our mode of living is breaking down. Some people want to get rid of cars. I just want to get rid of the excess people.

They will still bitch about infrastructure problems, blame someone else, and when the time comes want to give the money to corrupt progressive causes instead. I've heard that constantly since 2021 when historically cold weather causes some electricity issues here in Texas. On and on and on about "the grid is bad, fuck the Republicans who won't fix it." Except well, it's really not that bad and almost all of the issues are caused by green energy. Population grows, you need more electricity, it's just so much easier to leech federal subsidies to build solar and wind farms with little resistance than the years and years the green groups will lock you in court to build anything else.

The only thing you can be sure of is if greenies are bitching about the grid, they aren't planning on fixing it. Not in the sense of making it work like it was originally designed.

As a society, infrastructure is like putting points on the board. You can track the expanse and retreat of them by infrastructure. No matter who's to blame.

It's more like, "Why yes, I just love my rental property being overshadowed by tower blocks full of immigrants from developing countries! It fills my liberal heart with joy to be surrounded by such diversit-ay, and so much cultcha!"

So yeah.

Vancouver in a nutshell. Or Hamtranck (without the tower blocks, lol). Or obviously fucking London and Brum (Birmingham).

The problem isn't YIMBY or even large apartment buildings being built in cities, it's the dipshit regulations that require even luxury apartment buildings to set aside so many units for "muh low income" which then attract people who absolutely ruin the neighborhood.

There absolutely needs to be more middle income housing, just without the bullshit handouts.

Here’s an update: https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2023/07/yimby-useful-idiots-spread/

Universities and unions are behind this movement (because they benefit directly from it)…

Hahaha I hate this country (and California). FML…

Full version of the article, on MacroBusiness (didn’t want to archive, apparently) :

https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2023/06/yimbys-are-useful-idiots-of-the-development-lobby/

Talks about Vancouver as well, as an example of what is happening and what has happened to lead to this situation…

At least they're consistent. The people that live in big houses while profiting off putting developments in other people's backyards piss me off.
