I no longer have any understanding of people. I really never understood the desire for even heterosexual romance in such games. Tons of people fantasize about banging a bear? Unfortunately it's time for the fire and brimstone.
This is just a faggy blogger putting a spin on a sales bump for a video game that I assume most of us didn’t even really know existed until the bear-sex press cycle.
I knew it existed, but thought it came out a couple years ago. Guess that was just the early access, but a 3 year early access timeframe is concerning.
Call me old fashioned. But a 3 year early access is well into release territory, even if their content isn't fully done. They are still taking in the full price for a game and has been for the last couple of years.
I understand the sentiment and agree largely, but Larian really is an exception. They were very upfront about what early access means to them, which is mainly bug finding and tuning and never released any content beyond the first Act.
BG3 EA dropped during covid and loads of people bought in with out knowing this.
I’ve been keeping an eye on it. This week was a press tour with people (press leeches and YouTubers alike) to get a glimpse of Act 2 and the monk class. These are why people are jumping on and not this gay ass bear ass.
I really never understood the desire for even heterosexual romance in such games.
I sort of get it. There's a lot of blue pilled fantasy fulfillment to be had in romance plots.
Tons of people fantasize about banging a bear?
The only explanation I can think of is degenerate porn continuing to rot people's brains. We all know that's how the tranny problem got out of control, and once someone's sexuality is fucked up like that beastiality isn't that much of a jump.
While you might be on to something I would say modern consumer vapid culture is th e greater part. Most normie online folks are aware enough to know something will be talked about, everyone knows the bear stuff will be talked about and have videos about and posts about all over when this comes out. People crave the empty surface level engagement with whatever is happening NOW and that is the reason it was added in the first place. Someone made the ancient dnd joke of if fucking a druid in form counts as bestiality and some midwit writers and devs said yes that is hilarious everyone will be talking about that, and they're correct. Expect the shitty thumbnails of playthroughs and more articles about how "the internet is going INSANE over bear sex!!!" And for it to have some trending tag and some astroturfed memes or jokes and ultimately it will be forgotten. It's exactly the same as Lady Dmitrescu, it makes people talk and modern culture makes their entire reality these small fake "moments"

Nail on the head.
I remember years ago when Overwatch started gaying up their characters, a common response from people was "Well, these characters are in all sorts of gay acts in the porn, so why not just make it canon?"
I was gobsmacked at the amount of people were basically saying: because this happens in porn, it's fine if it happens in canon.
There's another property I'm only tangentially familiar with called RWBY or something like that. Apparently in fanfiction and whatnot two characters are constantly being "shipped" together, and so I think that also became canon. And people were praising it because their erotic fanfiction was made canon.
Interesting enough it was BG2 the first time I've noticed romance option. Back then it was more of an easter-egg, I did not even notice it on the first playthrough.
Now it is mandatory to have romance and if you do not include gay romance options is even worse. It has become a major feature rather then a small afterthought. I blame women in the industry for it.
BG2 romances were very simple given the isometric layout of the game. Everything was entirely done through dialogue and fade to black effects because the actual characters were extremely limited in what actions you could have them perform.
Plus some of them were just shit.
Anomen was a retarded paladin wannabe, Jaheira was a retarded Harper/cultist, Aerie was just flat out retarded, Viconia was probably one of the devs BDSM fetishes given the stereotypes about Drow, and I think Haer'Dalis was only a possibly antagonist in a love triangle thing if you were trying to romance Aerie; the fact he was the worst spec of Bard didn't exactly make many want to keep him around even at the best of times.
The various mods and extensions certainly helped with things though as some romance options were just flat out broken in the base game. Jaheira would simply vanish because one of her scripts wouldn't work. Aerie would stop part way through the romance for similar reasons so you would never get to the point you can have a child - incidentally making her the "tradwife" option because none of the others led to children. Viconia ended up getting killed "because Drow", Jaheira is more married to the Harpers than either husband in the games, and Anomen is a worse romance option than Carth Onasi was in KoToR 1.
When did they add Anomen or Her'Dalis? Is that in the extended version?
Granted I only played male characters but as I remember the 3 elves are the only options in the original. As for the rest
Jahiera was the tough, independent woman but she also loved her husband very much. In fact her romance line ends abruptly because of that. I found that to be a nice touch and very much in-character for her. I also had her and her husband in the party in BG 1, so it felt very uncomfortable to have a romance with her.
Aerie was a soft, fragile spirit that as you mentioned, leads to having a child. I found her to be a bit annoying at times but she was the main choice and a great character to have in your party, she had high int and wisdom so she was ok with wish spells.
Virconia, was heavily implied it was in to BDSM, I liked her as a companion but not as a romance option. When I took her I just disabled her romance line in shadowkeeper.
Overall it just seemed like the doctors had a elves fetish, way better then gay bears.
I do like how romance was done in BG2, you had to do dialogue options and form a connection over time. Now in kingmaker you talk a couple of times and bang they instantly hit on you or poe 2 where you get asked for butsex several times.
Romance was a thing in KoTor 1? I remember having some connection to Bastila but was so vague, was it a full romance? Granted I did no romance in KOTOR2 either but I assume you could with the blind chick or the white haired fighter cultist one.
Anomen was the female romance option. The only female romance option, because the devs were evidently expecting mostly guys playing male characters back in 2000 when the games originally came out.
There weren't many non Elf options companion wise.
Nalia was likely too tied up in being a noble what with her quest chain there, one that may have likely required the player to be a martial class in the first place so you actually get the keep where the chain then takes place.
Mazzy would probably have been a very popular choice, if just because her VA is Jennifer Hale, although shortstacks in general are liked.
The only other option is Imoen, who for plot reasons is off limits.
Overall it's not a big part of the game and can be ignored if players choose to, but I've always done it when playing, although with the mods fixing things because that bit you mentioned about Jaheira ending abruptly I think was one of the many broken scripts. Luckily you don't need the EE for those fixes.
KotoR romance was quite binary, you either romanced Bastila if you were a guy, or Carth if you were a girl. Canon player is male though so Bastila is the canon route what with the fact several descendants exist in later material such as Satele and Theron.
KotoR 2 was more nebulous because nobody actually really mattered. Canon wise The Exile was female which meant you options were Atton Rand, or the male Jedi Mical you get in place of the Maiden if you were a male character. Males got the aforementioned Maiden, Brianna, or Visas Marr, the blind Miraluka.
Unfortunately as with lots of KotoR 2 the romances were cut content wise so not much actually happened with them, regardless of improved gameplay when compared to things like Baldur's Gate style games.

Meh, they have been rather upfront with it, people knew what they were getting into.
Original Sin II was similar.
Larian had a few mishaps as far as Woke stuff is concerned, but they did mostly deliver as gamedevs

They did the same exact thing for DOSII.

That's kind of where we are now with media.

Sounds like just bear sex from the article - real bear + shape-shifted druid...
This generation is completely depraved.
Is a vampire and a druid in bear form having gay sex.
Well that's gay furry shit...
Gay and furry are pretty redundant.
