Of course they don't talk about the elephant in the room, which is that the cities in question are almost always deep blue shitholes even when they're smack in the middle of deep red states. That means higher crime, more bullshit laws and regulations, and the high density housing the left is all determined to pack us into. It's just a lower quality of life. The article does touch on some minor things that exacerbate the problem, but it dodges the main problem which is shitty governance.
Kansas City at least has shit to do if you avoid the worst parts, so I still go there a lot for day-cations. I can walk through downtown KC and still feel relatively safe.
The only highway system that's ever driven me away from a city is Dallas/Ft Worth, because it legit feels like you are under assault at all times driving through it.
Otherwise, when it comes to "downtowns" I find in most cities they are so filled with people I don't like that even when they are filled with "amenities" I avoid them. Because the people walking them are insufferable and can barely stay out of the road, the shops are overpriced, and everything there only exists to be "neat" to tourists instead of residents.
I didn't have nearly as much trouble in LA. The traffic was worse, and if you needed to lane change well good fucking luck, but the roads themselves weren't designed to make you ill and hateful all at once. At least, the parts I drove through.
Texas toll roads are great IMO. There is not so many of those in California, but the ones they have are nice, too. The interstates and the cities colliding is a clusterfuck. LA is one of the few places I've been in legit rush hour looking traffic at 1am. Their roads are better than many other states, IMO, but the volume is terrifying.
I will give you TX has the uniquely poor idea of an access road.

Looking at their graph of worst-hit cities, 62% are non-midwest cities, thus defeating the entire premise. And of the 5 midwest cities, we've got:
St Louis, AKA "Hands up, Don't shoot!"
Minneapolis, AKA Somalia, Minnesota
Cleveland, AKA the butt of the joke for decades now
Kansas City, AKA always on the list for most dangerous cities in the US
Only one I can't think of an obvious reason for people leaving is Indianapolis.
Indianapolis is increasingly black. Whites are leaving because of course.
Perhaps their point is these places are becoming jungles.
a RACIAL JUNGLE

I cant say the same for when I was in Denver.

Dallas has nothing on Atlanta much less LA.

Every time I hear somebody talking about some attraction or business that’s in a city, it immediately cancels all interest for me.
fuck the cities
Correct. Unless you stop crime, nothing else matters.
