I didn't have nearly as much trouble in LA. The traffic was worse, and if you needed to lane change well good fucking luck, but the roads themselves weren't designed to make you ill and hateful all at once. At least, the parts I drove through.
Texas toll roads are great IMO. There is not so many of those in California, but the ones they have are nice, too. The interstates and the cities colliding is a clusterfuck. LA is one of the few places I've been in legit rush hour looking traffic at 1am. Their roads are better than many other states, IMO, but the volume is terrifying.
I will give you TX has the uniquely poor idea of an access road.
Dallas has nothing on Atlanta much less LA.
