Just bought it. Thanks for recommending it! Now I have hundreds more to get into.

Whenever I shop in the manga section it’s just a reminder of how stupid marvel and dc are. Imagine understanding different markets and making stories that appeal to them instead of forcing characters and stories on people.
Remember, the entire American comic industry is outdone by a single manga.
Really? That I didn’t know.
Yeah. Kimetsu no Yaiba- Demon Slayer.
Demon slayer is so good.
It's way too childish for me, I love manga but some of the main characters make it unwatchable imo.
Its the "main shounen" show for the current generation. Its meant to be what Naruto was like 15 years ago.
Once you've got taste beyond the most entry level of anime, it'll always be done better elsewhere.
What does current generation mean to you? You mean the youngest? Because I'm here currently and I'm not the youngest generation...
It's nothing like Naruto, not even close.
And I don't know what you last statement is supposed to mean. Are you saying demon slayer is entry level?
Manga has increasingly large shelves at every Barnes and Nobles (and other book chains), while comics have the same pity shelves for omnibus and need to have their own specialty shops to even garner interest.
At my local comic book store I remember when new releases took up a lot of space but now manga takes up a good amount of space, back issue comics, and tabletop. New releases have a tiny slave now.
Hey u/Smith1980, not directly related but I thought you might be interested in this livestream if you hadn't already seen it. Razorfist did 3 and a half hours(!) with EVS talking about his new comic book series, among other things.
Thanks!
I suppose it's better than starting with the anime and only getting to the end of the first season. Looks great, but Thorfinn (up to the end of the first season) is not a likable protagonist.
I almost noped out when I saw Naruto-running Viking Thorfinn. It took recommendations from other people insisting on how good it was for me to actually get back in and give it another shot.
When does it get better?
I'm sick of edgy angsty kid Thorfinn & his mary sue powers & I've only watched through episode 8.
Thorfinn is a very different character in season 2. He is still not really likable, though. In season 2 the story is interesting but its a very slow burn. I'm going to stick it out, cause sunk cost and all, but overall I think the show is overrated.
Tail end of Season 1 into Second 2 is what I have been told. To be honest, I only just started picking it back up because I had other stuff in my backlog I cared about more before it. It is just what I am hearing second hand from people I generally trust in terms of taste.
It's doesn't, I was waiting the entire season...then it ended.
Naruto running Viking? Like the writer is the same?
No, as in the running style. Where they run with a forward lean and their arms back, which at least from everything I have ever seen is just referred to as "Naruto-running" regardless of the medium.
It is a different author.
EDIT: Just in case you need a visual idea of what I am talking about, this is a "Naruto-Run".
A normal very fast human runs like this: https://imgur.com/a/UoOjMz9
That's 27mph speed.
But in Naruto, the characters are supposed to run at ridiculous freeway speeds like 60-80mph. lol
I suppose. And I have heard that it makes sense for reducing wind resistance when running at the absurd speeds they do. But it was odd to see a show that was actually pretty good at taking what were actually reasonable depictions of Viking fight styles and weapons (...and running them through the Anime machine, but still) then have a character start doing that when it was a character I was already not a huge fan of.
To be fair there is nothing reasonable about the main character kid's fighting abilities at his age. He's like a little Arya Stark & I'm not even that far into the show.
Berserk (young guts) was far more reasonable & that show had demons in it.
They only run like that to reduce animation costs. You don’t have to animate arms or torsos for Naruto runners, and any closeup means you barely have to animate anything at all.
Where's the human?
Ohh. Ok. Thanks for the breakdown.
Huh... I don't recall that. Plenty of stereotypical reverse grip dual dagger charges, but not necessarily a "Naruto run."
It was the episode where they got hired as mercenaries to attack a fort, and ended up running the boats overland to attack it from the lake (?) side. But he was sent in ahead to attack from the front because Askeladd promised him a duel if he brought the head of the enemy commander. At least from the angle, it looked like a Naruto-Run, where he was leaning forward, arms behind as he was running as he ran at the wall.
Yeah I am on episode 9 & it's a struggle to watch episodes because the kid is such an obnoxious little shit.
I hate that anime writers make character start out being really obnoxious in order to "make them better" later & call that character development. No! bad writer!
It's all about Askeladd. If he wasn't such a good bastard character, the series wouldn't have gone very far. Highly recommend the Sentai/HiDive dub, because David fucking Wald.
Yes, he's the only character in the show I like at all at this point & he's explicitly supposed to be the villain.

I get that Wald is better than the Netflix dub, but he still comes nowhere near the original Japanese.
That's preferable to them just never changing at all and the writer just telling us they are better because uh, reasons!
Sakura did like 600 episodes of Naruto and didn't change in the slightest, but we were supposed to care about her.
don't know if someone recommended this yet, golden kamuii is really good as well
Thanks!
you mean farmland saga?
the artist really seems to drag out the title bearing farmland arc
Perhaps once they stop using the same 16 year old boy/girl as the lead protagonist, I might actually waste my time reading mangas.
Seen one of histrionic temper tantrum, seen them all.
I’m very new to manga. Who throws temper tantrums? Manga readers?
The angst-ridden adolescent/post-adolescent lead protagonists.
The most famous temper tantrum is seen within the movie Akira, then it moves to Evangelion and then it just became staple in the formulaic anime industry, e.g. that five minute long talk-temper tantrum in 'Devil Slayer Mugen Train.'
It's one big STFU.
Bring back adult protagonists.
Ohhh. Ok. Fist of the North Star is the only one off the top of my head I can think of with an adult protagonist. I’ll be on the lookout going forward. Thanks
Berserk also has one it’s great
Y'all gotta read better manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen is great, Chainsaw Man (was) great up to part 2, Hells Paradise is dope, Berserk is always peak.
Stop reading shounen directed at children or get into actual seinen.
I’m still learning, what is shounen? Stuff for kids? Is seinen for adults?
