I think people have just gotten numb to it and that's why they breaking out ALL the fear porn to try and wrestle people's attention back.
If anything, I think environmental stuff is actually pissing people off now especially thanks to activists, the only one that public will side with is farmers because eggs are expensive as hell in some places.
