I've said it before, but the Gateway Pundit's editing is astonishingly and consistently atrocious.
I believe there's court precedent that requires that defendants be unshackled in front of a jury unless they've acted up in front of the jury before to avoid concerns about bias. So I don't think that part is on the woketards in Oregon. It's possible that he does have a history in front of the jury and Oregon legislature was retarded enough to go beyond what the courts require and ban it in all circumstances. It's impossible to say without knowing more details. Either way it's clear that courthouse security fucked up things that have nothing to do with shackles. Shackles should never be the only thing preventing escape even when they are used. He shouldn't have been able to just walk out of there.
It's not a "woke" law. Every place I've heard of does this because it is prejudicial to have a defendant shackled and in a jail outfit when he's on trial.
The real issue here is that the cops are supposed to be there to prevent this, and the ones there clearly weren't doing their jobs.
this is correct, but in multiple states, if the defendant does not make bail, they will still cuff the guy's ankle to a chair or a U bolt in the ground. the jury can't see it, but the defendant is not getting far.
I suspect the way this will go is trial by video. Keep in mind it's still prison-industrial complex, as woke as state lawmakers may feel. People in this process won't have any problem with it; it'll make their lives a lot easier.
What use is that bowling ball of a woman serving as a security guard? Do they make her sit in front of doors when the locks break or something? Took her 10 seconds to squeeze past a normal desk gap, at least the pudgy guy cop could keep pace with the escapee.
This guy escaped the building because of stupid shackle laws AND stupid hiring policies.
why did no one stop him at the door?
He had a valid ID and two hot chicks with him.

Insist on this and yet you probably don't hear from defendants at all in court. They are muzzled. But not hobbled.
He needed a fair chance to defend himself against Binger.
There are a lot of places out there where a man would get his clock cleaned for flagging people like Binger did.
They're good places, filled with good people.
