The men interviewed within the article specifically talk about not wanting to commit, and at least one [quote/interview?] about a woman who went on a date with [one man] who did want [commitment].
Online commentators: Be better, men.
Mainstream media: Men are the reason behind the mating crisis because they refuse to be better.
Psychiatrists: Here are some studies which show why only men need to be better.
Self-help gurus: Lift weights and touch grass as a start, men. You need to be better than the best.
It is, and the Manosphere (parts of it anyway) are the only ones telling men to do that because the rest of this sick society would rather use their problems as a hook to gaslight them into being useful for whatever deranged cause is currently fashionable than see them succeed.
The problem is when both are sold as guarantees to find a partner. I've seen videos of long term single men in their thirties and forties telling their younger audience that they are not the miracle cures people sell them as for loneliness.
I'm in my 30s. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and I golf outside in the summer. I'm still depressed. They aren't magical cures.
Something often neglected by the "work out to get a date" crew is that as you yourself improve, your standards will increase. To think about it on the extreme, if you were 300 pounds and struggling to attract other 300 pound women because those 300 pound women felt they deserved Chad, so you hit the gym and became 200 pounds of muscle, you no longer care about the 300 pound fat chicks. You now want the skinny gym girls because if you're willing to devote 10 hours a week to self improvement, you're going to want a woman who puts the same amount of effort in for herself. You won't be attracted to lazy fat slobs anymore. The competition for these attractive women is even steeper than it was for 300 pound women when you were 300 pounds yourself. Becoming fit and healthy as a guy doesn't necessarily make the game any easier, it just changes the game. That's why you should really only workout for yourself not for women.
A significant amount of money on the other hand will make the game easier but there's no guaranteed way to make enough of it.
Why should they? Women put out for deadbeats within minutes of meeting them, so why should good men invest any more than those guys?
What?
First assumption is

To be fair, lifting weights and touching grass is good life advice in general.
