Oh HI! ...oh.
No doubt some people are just paranoid, but I'd like to point out that this isn't necessarily contradictory. Direction of spread of the chemicals, and whether they come down from the atmosphere, will depend a lot on weather patterns - wind, rain etc.
Eye irritation, nasal congestion, sore throat and headaches are also subjective and vague/general symptoms that can't be objectively measured or proven falsified.
Kind of like long COVID symptoms.
Burning vinyl chloride produces hydrogen chloride and phosgene. These are toxic. That is a scientific fact. Whether any individual's "symptoms" is actually caused by these is another matter.
Some of it is absolutely people being attention whores.
Unless I see hard data, idgaf.
Seconded. Its also entirely possible people are looking up symptoms and gaining them through what is effectively a reverse placebo effect.
Dont get me wrong, its a chemical fire. But everything I have seen says it is nowhere near as dangerous as advertised. Dangerous yes, but the worst of it would be past by now except for some residual in the top soil.
My parents got married during the Mt St Helens eruption and didn't know about it for weeks.
Why did they have to blow up a mountain to get married?
I don't know either. They never explain it to me.
I live about 70 miles from it. No symptoms.
