Trump is clearly not close to invulnerable in a primary in 2024 and DeSantis obviously sees it and he will run.
Trump has an abysmal history on personnel selection, he refuses to stop praising the vax that his own base of supporters despise and Trump has also made terrible endorsements in the 2022 primaries like Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker which has cost Republicans winnable seats in swing states. Trump refuses to stop complaining impotently about the 2020 election and he comes with more baggage than ever after J6.
This is not the Trump of 2016 or even the Trump of 2020. This is Trump in his weakest position.
If DeSantis waits for 2028, he will never become President as he will become irrelevant.
In 2024 the nominee will be Trump or DeSantis. The possibility exists for either one to win. The winner will be decided based on their primary campaigns. Anyone telling you that Trump is guaranteed to be the nominee has their eyes closed. It is a jump ball right now.
A good summary of how I see things Currently
All Trump needs to do is drop vaccine support and have a person to vet people for him like a Steve Bannon again and he's fine. The problem is he's a mudwestler so no matter what you are getting dirty fighting him politically while he isn't harmed by that style as people will go 'that's Trump'.
I have seen this Styx video and I don't think Styx understands that Trump's innate characteristics have become his Achilles heel right now.
Trump is the type of guy who never admits he was wrong on everything.
He is a very prideful man who thinks it is beneath him to even have to compete for the nomination. He believes he is entitled to be coronated for 2024 because he thinks 2020 was stolen from him. This is a dangerous entitlement mentality here.
He just won't change course on the vax. He will refuse to denounce it. He brags to this day that he saved 100 million lives with it.
Recently he also foolishly blames anyone who doesn't kiss his ring as disloyal these days. He has said this about evangelical leaders who haven't endorsed him for 2024, he has said this about pro-lifers, he has said this about people who worked for his administration and haven't endorsed him and he constantly berates DeSantis for even daring to think to run against him.
Trump wrongfully believes that he is entitled to 2024 as his turn. This sense of thinking is going to ruin his campaign from doing the things necessary to even win the nomination let alone the general.
With the baggage he has accrued if Trump becomes the nominee, he is very likely to lose in 2024 and as a result will destroy his own legacy when he ensures the nation will have 4 more years of Dem rule.
I won't disagree with the points you made but unless it's from the grass roots NOT the establishment or media, Trump is the incumbent candidate.
It's a shame Ross Perot didn't win in 1992 as then you would have 3 parties to choose from than be stuck between two sides.
Third parties cannot win a national election in our existing political system. Third parties can only serve as a spoiler vote for one of the two major parties.
If we are talking about the best President that never was then my nod goes to Ron Paul. He would have truly changed some key things for the better.
As onetruephilosoraptor said, viable third parties cannot exist in first past the post systems. What would happen to the GOP is what happened to the Whigs; everyone would leave the GOP and the Reform party would be the same as the GOP, with the same people. Once the Republican Party expanded past its roots as a mostly irrelevant abolitionist party, it became a clone of the Whig Party as former Whigs flocked to it.
What does this even mean? He could run in 2040 and still win. Nobody knows the future.
Yes I'm in camp Stay-governor-for-several-terms-and-then-run-for-President.
What is he going to do when he terms out of being Governor in 2026 if he doesn't run?
Florida has gubernatorial term limits of only two terms maximum.
Marco Rubio is in one Florida Senate seat till atleast 2028.
Rick Scott will be in the other Senate seat till 2030.
Thus running for Senate is not an option.
No governor goes for the downgrade of running for a House seat again.
What will he do, be a host on Newsmax after his governorship is over?
Candidates who are out of political office for years and decades become forgotten and old news.
2024 is his best opportunity and he would be a fool to wait.
If he did lose the 2024 primary then he will still be very relevant for 2028.
Many GOP nominees have lost the previous presidential primary, become the nominee in the cycle after and then won the general.
Look at Reagan and H.W Bush
Running in 2024 for DeSantis has immense benefits and no big costs.
Damn, I didn't know that. Then he needs to hand pick and promote his successor. After that anything is up for grabs. I still don't think he'd necessarily lose no matter when he runs, and 2028 is only 2 years after 2026. When he announces his campaign he'll be in the news again.
You're surely not serious. Pulling out of backing Walker is basically letting women select who can be elected without even voting.
What we need is people who take women's tactics and hit back twice as hard. You accuse me of rape? I'll sue you for every cent you've got. You call me a sexist? I quote one of the many feminist calls for mass murder of men.
Herschel Walker was a shit candidate even in an alternate timeline where he didn't have any sexual scandals.
He is the only statewide GOP candidate in GA who lost and it is no accident why it happened.
He was unqualified and he didn't have the media to cover for him unlike the Dems and Fetterman.
Someone like Doug Collins as GOP candidate in GA would have beaten Warnock.
GA elections are as corrupt as they come.
Unqualified? Did you see the sheer number of garbage female candidates that the Democrats got in? You don't need to be qualified. You just need to be liked.
You want to talk about mistakes in 2022, it's all down to believing your own bullshit about eight point shifts in women's vote, causing crap candidates like Tudor Dixon and Kari "trust the plan" Lake. It's down to believing that anyone gave a shit about fucking TERF issues when inflation was pushing 10%.
If it's so corrupt, then why did Kemp blow away "President of Earth" Stacey Abrams?
