Despite these differences, Ezra openly displays an interest in Black culture, sporting the latest (clean) sneakers, enjoying rap music, and hosting a podcast with his Black best friend Mo (Sam Jay) all about “the culture.” Regardless, Amira and Ezra make a decent pairing.
I love how black people are so proud of their culture, and often they'll even insult white people for "not having any culture", but their culture consists of rap, fucking shoes, and basketball/football.
I've seen black guys on YouTube who do street interviews. They'll find a white guy and say, "Let's see how much you know about black people!" They proceed to ask questions like what's a do-rag? What are these shoes (*while pointing to a pair of Jordan's he's wearing *)? Finish this lyric, ">insert some shitty mainstream rap lyric<"
Then when the white guy gets them all right, the black dude goes crazy as if the white guy just discovered a cure for cancer.
Like how pathetic is that? I know they play it up for the camera, but they've actually convinced themselves that these things are worthy of pride.
It's not that the characters in You People have nothing to be cautious about. There are legitimate concerns when people of color enter romantic relationships with white people
Yeah, such as their black friends and family members giving them non-stop grief for dating a white person. I'd guess somewhere around 95% of all negative comments made towards interracial couples in America are said by black people or another minority. (mostly Indians next, followed by Asians/Mexicans in some order)

If you tried to convince me that mainstream black american culture is the result of a government-corporate astroturf to create perfect consumers/voters, I would believe you. No wonder the africans and black latinos can't stand it.
Gonna have to stop you right there. He doesn't think he's 'white', none of his third cousins think they're 'white', and they'll all quite gladly volunteer that the moment anyone starts talking social-justicey.
He’s perturbed by the idea of interracial relationships and side-eyes Black people whose hair isn’t nappy enough. (Ironically, he makes these comments to his daughter, who’s portrayed by a light-skinned, biracial woman, despite having two dark-skinned Black parents in the film).
I saw that scene in the movie and thought that it was "the joke" that he was complaining about light-skinned black people in the cafe in front of the light skinned daughter. I didn't really put 2 and 2 together about her being obviously not their daughter.
It’s a new movie on Netflix. Should be enough to tell you not to bother. Add that to the fact that any black writer or director in Hollywood can seem to just tell a story and has to inject race into everything. Ava Duvernay is probably the worst
I mean they did use the mixed-race daughter in place of the clearly black daughter that would seem to result of the pairing. I suppose you could look at that as race swapping of the mother or the father. They probably give themselves extra points for putting in a mixed race person and distorting reality.
Sounds like the kind of movie that pretty much nobody would like. It's meant to be woke as fuck, so the anti-woke people that are still clinging to Netflix like the retards they are hate it on principle. But meanwhile, the woke who it's meant to appeal to hate it too because it has the gall to say that maybe black people and Muslims aren't perfect little angels and are capable of being incredibly hateful themselves, it's supportive of interracial and interreligious relationships that blacks, Jews, and Muslims alike all oppose, AND it equates Jews with whites. I suppose typical white lefties would enjoy it until they hear the uproar from the people they are purported to be allies to, in which they'll join the bandwagon decrying it.
There are legitimate concerns when people of color enter romantic relationships with white people—or any relationship, for that matter. However, You People never lays those issues out accurately. Instead, the Black characters come off as unreasonably stubborn and borderline hateful toward white people.
Sounds accurate to me, lady. And I bet it's accurate of yourself too. Particularly since you said this:
While Ezra’s parents display some ignorance, they’re at the very least accepting of his relationship. On the other hand, it’s frustrating that the main antagonist in this film is an ultra-conservative Black man. It’s almost like Barris and Hill, who wrote the film together, don’t realize that the stigma they’re exploring is a result of white racism.
The kind of attitude where you blame whites for everything means you're already not very keen to them and are judging them the second they enter your field of vision. I doubt you'd be very approving if you saw one of your fellow blacks holding hands with a white either.
In theory, a romcom with a right wing immigrant and a leftie american could work. I'd just never trust these guys to present the right properly. They've failed at it for nearly 30 years, they're not about to figure it out now.
This movie sounds obnoxious to watch.
It really does lol
My wife started watching this movie, or it came on the TV or something. Cringy as fuck

Good little consooomers

They wouldn't represent the left accurately either. A good comedy like that would be scathing on the level of Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes.
