Europe is literally occupied by the US, particularly Germany. As the saying goes, "NATO is about keeping Russia out, the Americans in and the Germans down."
The cost savings doesn't pan out in practice either. There is a reason for the term europoors. The purchasing power and standard of living of the median citizens in the richest European countries is on par with the median citizens of the poorest US states, and that's accounting for welfare benefits.
The reason Europe can pay for that is because Germany takes half its people's earnings and then about another 19% of the rest. A large part of that money then gets redistributed across Europe.
financial gifts to all of Europe - including Italy which cannot repay any of its government debt.
The fucked up thing is, Germans have less personal wealth than Italians. Mostly because people in Germany cannot afford houses and when you inherit a house the government takes a huge chunk of it.
On top of that, Germans have to go into retirement later and later so they can pay earlier retirement for the underperformers in Europe.
Europe has been a stagnant pond for a century. Nothing has changed. Only in the petridish that is Europe could multiple wars killing over a hundred million people and their aftermaths not change a damn thing about their economies and political environments.
The US could easily afford free healthcare- it gives billions to israel every year. And israel gives its citizens free healthcare thanks to hardworking americans
Just look into the budget of say Sweden which is more rural than America, if the average gross salary is $2500/mo, around 30% of that income goes to municipality tax. Only 10% of that is county tax. That's all the money the county, which are in charge of healthcare has to spend.
And that covers not only the hospitals, but also public transit, the ambulance service, (trucks, buses and helicopters), all adjustments for handicapped, say that you need a wheelchair ramp, and elevator and more after an accident and a wheelchair friendly bathroom in your house, the county pays for that with tax money. It covers elder care, assistant living facilities, and even people who visit elderly regularly to check and help them clean their house, buy groceries etc.
And then there's still millions being stolen through corruption and illegals cheating the system pretending to be handicapped or who doesn't even live in the country. Somehow the system still operates around +/- 0 profit/loss.
Oh don't worry, we can't afford to pay our socialist entitlements and free healthcare either. The systems were going to hell in 2019, and Corona accelerated everything incredibly hard. It's already dead and nearly every European nation is taking on insane amounts of debt just to keep up the illusion that the system is still functional.
Socialism can only work as long people doesn't abuse it, which was the case back in the days of National Socialism where illegals weren't allowed welfare. National capitalism would justify more illegals flooding in, most people would rather kick them out then scale down the level of socialism or welfare to reasonable levels. But most importantly stop people from abusing it without having to add more government surveillance.
Shared systems like public transit is nothing wrong in urban areas like a town, a village, community or even a city. The key is to be able to offer such systems without simultaneously installing a mass surveillance system, but also offering transparency and properly deal with corruption that tends to find it's way into all of these systems.
u/ArchRespawnsAgain posted the correct analysis of the situation. As long as Europe depends on the US for defense, the USA gets to call the shots. Never has this been more clear than in the aftermath of the staggering display of how wholly under the thumb of America Europe is, that was the bombing of the nordstream pipelines, blatantly conducted by the US, that no European state dares make mention of - minus one polish ambassador who clearly didn't get the memo to shut the fuck up.
Europe was conquered by America in 1945. It has been occupied ever since, with American troops and airbases all over it.
It's all spelled out in a book called The Absent Superpower. The US is worried about the spread of Communism post-WWII, so we basically bribe other countries to take our side. Those who side with us are protected from invasion by the US military, have their shipping protected by the US navy, and are free to sell their products in the US. All that we ask in return is that they don't attack other members of our alliance and don't become Communist.

America pays that in exchange for making the decisions. There is no altruism to be had.

German people need to stop being guilty for something THEY didn’t do.
They are paying reparations in :
actual reparations to Israel
financial gifts to all of Europe - including Italy which cannot repay any of its government debt.
Mass replacement of their native citizens with immigrants who largely hate them

The creation and management of a national health scheme in the US is fraught with difficulty to the point of being damn near impossible.
Kraut here explains why pretty clearly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1TaL7OhveM

It's fine, the power of free healthcare will save Europe from hypothermia and frostbite over the winter. Natural gas is overrated.
Trump didn't go far enough. He should have removed the US from NATO altogether if it was in the President's power to do it.

You misspelled 'vassals'.

We should be more angry about how much we send to Israel-
it is a much bigger amount - and we actually send them cash.
which they immediately turn around and use to spend on healthcare for their people.
and use to lobby for open borders in the US (while they have the strictest race based borders in the world)
