Also, there are enough impoverished Favela-dwellers who don't give a fuck about politics that their votes are easy to buy in exchange for a few hundred real. They don't even have the show up in order to "vote" for Lula.
Yeah, a lot of people sell their votes here, not sure what they pay for federal elections but in 2020 I was working in a small town and saw messages in a WhatsApp group saying that they paid around 150 BRL (around 28 USD) for votes for mayor.
Weird how both elections had identical vote curves, Bolsonaro started out way ahead and then every single vote dump was slightly more for the other guy.
I hope Lula speed runs ruining the Brazilian economy so we can all use him as a data point on why to never give power to leftists, just like Venezuela.
He's not Stalin, but he's way farther to left than any North American or European head of state.
Lula protected and threw money at MST which is basically a domestic terrorist organization that specializes in invading (supposedly unproductive) rural properties and eventually occupying them.
As soon as Lula lost his grip on power (with Dilma's impeachment) the invasions fell dramatically. Once Bolsonaro was elected they fell to zero. For the first time in the 6th republic.
Bruh, nitpicking a couple of cases of European governments expropriating houses doesn't compare to the thousands of violent invasions that were funded by the workers party in Brazil.
And I was mistaken about the number of invasions during Bolsonaro's first year.
There were actually 5
And bruh, Times of Israel, seriously? Archive that shit.
I appreciate your answer. As a Christian I’m all for helping those in need but I just feel like no system is ever going to solve every issue. I guess an completely voluntarist or anarcho capitalist society that has small communities where everyone agrees to voluntarily support the community. But that’s idealistic too. Like I said I have relatives who seem to love the free stuff message but won’t life a finger to help themselves. Perhaps a better social safety net that helps those truly in need but also as a society stop rewarding bad behavior. But I’m just rambling. Thanks again for answering. I do agree with you on more than I disagree with you.
Petrobras was dismantled bit by bit with bad political nominations to key positions, and political mismanagement (like artificially keeping had prices down at a loss to the company).
Immediately after the impeachment, it slowly began to get back on its feet.
Bolsonaro seemed to be doing a decent job with it, at least keeping the administration transparent. Now it's gonna go back into the shitter. You did good Imp.
Being a right wing incumbent during COVID is a tough trend to buck.
I don't think any right wing incumbents in ANY country have won recently.
Bolso is going to have a tough time.
The filthy communist Lula is sadly favored at this point
Do they have mail-in ballots in Brazil?
Yes.
Fuck.
This is why my prediction is that Brazil is looking screwed and that filth Lula is favored.
In theory it is. But you can just not vote and pay a pathetic fine.
Most people go vote for the same reason they got COVID shots (herd mentality).

It's done now. It was super close, but he lost.
Now he's probably gonna try to accuse Lula of fraud, but the justice system will just ignore him.
If the other Latin American countries (who put the populist left back in power) are any indication of Brazil's future, we're in deep shit.
God help us all.
Ahem...

They fixed the initial election, of course this one was going to go bad.
You know Lula won because it is plastered in 20 posts on the front page of Reddit.
Really goes to show how Reddit is the front page of the communist international.
One of the top posts actually had "the Trump of Brazil" in the title. These people.
Weird how both elections had identical vote curves, Bolsonaro started out way ahead and then every single vote dump was slightly more for the other guy.
Not familiar with Brazilian politics but I assume the winner is a “something for nothing” style politician?
I hope Lula speed runs ruining the Brazilian economy so we can all use him as a data point on why to never give power to leftists, just like Venezuela.
Sucks for the people of Brazil, though.
Current results, as of this post being created.
44,41% counted.
Jair Bolsonaro leads with 50.43% of the vote.
~54% count.
Every update brings it closer. Really needs to perform better in whatever regions are counted last.
50.20%, Bolsonaro leads still.
~61% count.
It's getting tight now. Next update will probably be Lula taking the lead.
Bolsonaro leads by 0.1%.
~67% count.
Lula takes the lead. Fucking hell.
Bolsonaro down by 0.01%.
85% count.
Yeah, a former prisoner wins. Unbelievable.
Bolsonaro down by 0.43%
It's looking like it's over now.
Amazing. Someone can be arrested and jailed for corruption and still win.
Yes if they are leftist they can win.
Look at his goddamn political positions.
He is a complete leftist.
Bernie is a commie.
Thanks for proving my point retard.
Bernie is a literally a USSR praising commie

Give me your stuff. You have to. It's what you believe in.
Sure he's not against re-distribution, as long as it isn't his stuff.
That’s all you had to say, retard.

He should be in jail!
I think he will cheat his way to the win. I sold all my Petrobras after it bounced from Bolsonaro beating poll estimates in the first round.
