Every site Fandom has bought, they've made navigation worse.
And they've added extra ads, and sometimes videos taking up half the screen on mobile that you can't move aside or make smaller.
They're not the worst out there, but they're not a good thing.
This. Fandom is absolutely terrible. Navigating one of their sites without adblocks and Javascript blockers is beyond frustrating
Yeah, Fandom is “seeking community input” for what the consolidated thing should be called, as we speak…
Giant Turd, maybe?
Another corner of the internet dies. Fun…
Good or bad thing?
Doesn't really matter. Corporate consolidation sucks, but all of these companies are ruined beyond repair anyway, so it won't make much difference.
Yea, these sites have sucked for so long. Let them go down in flames.
Well, considering that FANDOM has turned Wikias into sanitized hellholes so they can shove as many massive autoplay ads at the top of the page as possible, I would consider this bad.
Every single Wikia apparently requires some corporate overlord micromanaging everything for the as mentioned autoplay ads. They also have no issuing DMCAs if they even SUSPECT anything similar.
Thankfully, several game developers (GW2, (OS)RS(3), Terraria) have already moved to having self hosted Wikis. If the fucking maple niggers behind Warframe would do the same, FANDOM would go in freefall.
Incredibly bad, because they're also buying GameFAQs.
As a user there, let me be frank- 80%+ of that community is shit. If it becomes the mess that fan-wikis have, I'll happily drop it.
The community isn't really the point, it's the simple .txt walkthroughs written by actual human beings and not AI robots that aren't covered in the insane ad AIDS that all Fandom wikis are covered in.
And they already try to push the impossible-to-navigate html FAQs that are broken into a million separate page views.
Let's hope someone archived all the FAQs. (which they should've done at the IGN purchase just to be safe)
Somebody actually did archive all the .txt walkthroughs. https://archive.org/details/Gamespot_Gamefaqs_TXTs
Depends on if they replace any existing journalists on those sites
