These third person cinematic games have basically killed the games industry. They encouraged an incestuous relationship between Hollywood and video games, made everyone complete graphics-obsessed WHORES, and have allowed dumbass, libshit writers to dominate the direction of gaming. The worst part is that these cinematic games have such simplistic appeal that the casual crowd will buy these games in perpetuity.
I can’t be excited for GOW Ragnarok at all because I know the story will be full of leftist garbage and the gameplay will be just as shallow, rigid, and constrained as it was in GOW 2018, and it annoys me to no end that GOW 2018 is still revered as this masterpiece in such a fanatical manner… Even with so many flaws, criticizing the game is seen as a sin for some reason.
Shitty publishers and devs did this.
Maybe stop sniffing the pile of shit on the ground just to complain about it. AAA is garbage, everyone knows this. Stop paying attention to it. There are more good games out there than you could ever play.
Just pretend the world ended in 2016 and you still have a lifetime of games to play.
Its a great time to get into emulation.
How do you make a difference between a cinematic game and just a linear story focused game? Is KOTOR or DA:Origins cinematic games?
At some level I understand the difference I just find it hard to rationalize it.
The difference is how much input the player has. In most games when your character starts doing cinematic stuff, you put the controller down. It's a cutscene. Something like Uncharted or TLOU pretends like it's still a game, but it's all pre-scripted and you only have the illusion of actually playing
I like the way Metroid Dread did it. 90% of the game is traditionally controlled, but if you land a melee counter on very tight windows of boss fights, you're treated to a cutscene of Samus being awesome while you still have control of shooting at the boss. It's functionally the same thing as the boss lying stunned while you whale on it, but it's more dynamic and visually interesting.
These types of games did not make everyone complete graphics-obsessed WHORES, that was already a thing. Otherwise yes.
It’s both, and there are indie alternatives to both.
They're made by companies who only understand movies and music AKA Sony. You need to play the next big thing or be lost in the social crowd. Then the movies leave the theater, and no one cares.
I bought the entire uncharted series for less than $10 at an event. It was in the dollar and two dollar box. I then played them and realized I enjoyed the game once and then it has no appeal.
Thats the real problem. I can watch a movie I have seen hundreds of times, and still enjoy it. I want to come back. I don't want to come back to most new things. Its all sizzle, no steak.
People where graphics whores long before TLOU.
This problem emerges from consoles. Consoles were always the problem.
