History of Africa: literally no one gives a shit
Random Leftist: "How can we use this as a platform for saying white people are inherently evil, and can only seek salvation by accepting Karl Marx into their hearts as their Lord and Savior??"
I so don't give a shit about it, I stopped reading after the first tweet
It's actually hard to study African history. Almost every book I e found only talk about it as if history was entirely a colonial thing. They didn't exist unless someone else wanted to talk about how powerful someone else was. This movie doesn't want to talk about African history, it wants to talk about Europeans.
You'd have to first collect a bunch of history books written by Africans, not by Westerners/Europeans. Then you'd have to sift away the resentful, the rose-tinted-past romanticism and, uhh, the anti-colonialist reactionary political nonsense. Then you would end up with one or two excellent books written by the salt of the earth.
It would require a huge effort, sadly.
I've already done some. I know some about the Yoruba and various languages. The ancient sudanese were amazing.
they didn't have written language until whites made it for them during colonial years, to the Africans, concept of history didn't even exist until 300 years ago.
Find books written during the 90s or earlier.
Nice info and analysis, I will however always find it darkly funny that the Empire that not only outlawed and enforced naval blockadesbut also paid to end slavery since it was technically seizing property freeing them (Britain) always gets the evil treatment but everyone forgets about the Portuguese and their enslavements and genocides.....
I’ve said before a mini series on Mansa Musa would be interesting since his kingdom ended before Europeans but an honest show/movie probably couldn’t be made since he is “guilty” of the same things they vilify the west about (slavery/land conquest) and I doubt seriously they would show non-Europeans doing the same things they whine about the western world doing.
"Golden Empire"
I'd watch it.
Oh yea he had an enormous amount of gold. I forgot about that
Woah internalized white supremacy much?
Also antisemitic and climate change, probably
How dare he criticize the greatest movie that's every been made or ever will be made and the first movie in history to have blacks, women, a female lead who is both black and a woman, and the first movie ever to take place in or be about Africa
I demand he immediately apologize and become trans
Lmao
Not enough slaving and blood-drinking I guess
Honestly? If I was watching a period piece on England and I saw two characters named Beeve and Scroovel, I'd probably be like "heh, those old timey English". They sound close enough that I'd just assume they were names at some point.
