It's actually hard to study African history. Almost every book I e found only talk about it as if history was entirely a colonial thing. They didn't exist unless someone else wanted to talk about how powerful someone else was. This movie doesn't want to talk about African history, it wants to talk about Europeans.
You'd have to first collect a bunch of history books written by Africans, not by Westerners/Europeans. Then you'd have to sift away the resentful, the rose-tinted-past romanticism and, uhh, the anti-colonialist reactionary political nonsense. Then you would end up with one or two excellent books written by the salt of the earth.
It would require a huge effort, sadly.
I've already done some. I know some about the Yoruba and various languages. The ancient sudanese were amazing.
they didn't have written language until whites made it for them during colonial years, to the Africans, concept of history didn't even exist until 300 years ago.
Find books written during the 90s or earlier.
