The Italian Communist Party rebranded as the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS) in 1991, and then Democrats of the Left in 1998, then the Democratic Party (Italian: Partito Democratico, PD) in 2007, which is part of the ruling coalition in Italy today.
Germany has Die Linke which is about as close to communist as you can get without actually calling yourself communist. Large parts of the Greens and Socialists are more or less the same, too. We also have the MLPD which openly communist. The latter even erected statues of Lenin and Marx.
The overlap is nationalism and anti communism. That's what the elites hate. The overlap is the fact that the Nazis threw out all the communists and liberals from Germany. Of course most "far right" parties in Germany are not even close to that. the AFD has a banker lesbian in a relationship with a foreigner as a leader for God's sake.
