Since I play sports games sometimes I’ll get emails from EA and I notice that they are including women’s teams and really pushing them in their FIFA game and NHL game. Has there been some massive rise in women playing sports games? I always figured those were the games with the highest male percentage. Also if these companies believe in “representation” so much why not make a FIFA game plan of all womens teams?
I know in the grand scheme of things it isn’t a huge deal but this was surprising
Nobody is playing the womens teams.
Man, that is ridiculously low. No surprise people aren't playing the female teams, but I have to imagine you'd get more than 4% of people deciding to play one female match just for achievement hunting purposes.
It'd be reasonable to expect at least 20% of people would try it at least once just to experience all the play modes available, and attaching an achievement could double that. Players must be making a concious decision to avoid the women.
FIFA doesn't appear to have a "beat the tutorial" type achievement, but the achievement with the highest percentage is "Score a goal from a Free Kick" at 34%
In my experience it's pretty rare for them to go over 50%. 3.8% is pretty low though
Now that is the question what genre/type of games does achievement hunters gather around, my suspicion is that sport games is one of the odd one and they don't really get achievement hunters but rather action games/rpgs and perhaps arcade games get more of them.
I know a few achievement hunters. They'd play any game as long as the achievements aren't stupidly hard/long to get. `
There's also websites like TrueAchievement which add a bonus depending on the achievement's success rate among players: The more players the game have, and the lower the rate of the achievement, the higher the bonus. Since sports games are very popular with millions of sales each, but with low number of people actually caring for the achievements, they tend to have "higher achievement values".
https://www.trueachievements.com/game/FIFA-21/achievements You can see a few achievements have a ratio >2 (fairly high already) or even >5 (very high and very interesting).
Since the achievement is simply "play a women football match", and thus very easy to get, I suspect many achievement hunters who have this game did it already (it has a 20% unlock rate on this website, much higher than the global 3.8%). Still far from 100% though, and still has a ratio of 2.25, so yeah, people really aren't interested in that.
Interesting thanks for the links, Now this is the kind of useless studies social science should research.
Wow that person who wrote the article is clueless. Maybe women aren’t into sports games that much
Translation: EA needs to hide the best unlocks behind playing the womens team.
I’m surprised they haven’t done that already
There's an artificial push for women to be more prominent in sports, unfortunately (or fortunately) the covid vaccine push really dented sports as a whole with the ones that took it and the ones that looked at data and said it's not for them.
If they wanted us to play more women in sports stuff, just go full dead or alive volleyball with it or let us put in fantasy characters like having Tifa as a striker since the female players they push in real life tend to be insufferable bitches.
I remember there was a beach volleyball game and the commercial had teenage boys playing it and enjoying it for obvious reasons lol
Nope. Women are playing stupid shit like Animal Crossing: Zootopia and Genshin Impacted Colon.
That’s what I thought but I was double checking
Nope, all for ESG rating
There was an infinity percent rise: from 0 to 2.
I didn't even know they had women teams lol.
This is wikipedia so maybe not the best source, but they have a page about women playing video games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_and_video_games
Sports games are the lowest at 2%, so you're right, they are the games with highest male gamers. This was done in 2017, but I don't see how simply adding a few women teams or leagues will change much. Look at the other genres, even when those genres are 'agendered' like Sci-fi MMO, strategy or racing, they are all very low among women. Women seems interested in quick games with low pressure, or focused on narrative, which is fairly far from what FIFA and other sports games are. No amount of DIE or whatever will ever change that. If the ratio goes up, it's simply because the game's so woke men are starting to move away too.
This is why it’s so annoying that we see all over where if guys enjoy something then the agenda is that women need to be injected into it and not the simple answer that certain entertainment appeals to more men and certain entertainment appeals to more women.
I know some girls play football at high school or lower levels but I can see the NFL having like a woman kicker. Since there are no rules against women but I don’t want to hear complaining when there is a blocked kick and she gets bulldozed
