I have no doubt that women in their 20s and 30s think they are happier living a hedonist lifestyle that focuses entirely on themselves.
But we don’t die at 40. Spending the second half of your life with no family to love and care for you is a brand of hell on earth.
Of course, most white peoples have been engineered to abandon extended family to chase a job or a lifestyle, so a lot of us don’t even know what we’ve lost. If your kid is just gonna piss off to one of the coasts after college, showing up mostly just for weddings and funerals until the day they stash you in a home and sell your house, then yeah, why bother.
Correct. The spell of hedonism wears off around 35yo for women because that's when they hit the wall. Some can keep it going longer but truthfully, single women will only be happy so long as their beauty is relevant and even then their "happiness" is nothing more than a distraction.
This is a very good point. In some studies I read recently, it was found that young women (and men) with children scored lower on happiness indicators than those without, but as they got older and their children became adults, their happiness increased significantly while the childless people’s happiness decreased significantly.
Basically, children are a lot of trouble in the short term but give you much more fulfillment in the long term.
Already in their 30s they panic. I know several cases of friends that hit 30/ 35 and then got married and had a kid. One of them was a higher up at a bank, made a lot of money and now wants to give it all up to focus on her kid because her kid makes her happier then her job, it does help that her husband makes a lot of money. 2 others had a kid by "accident", as in straight out lied about being on the pill. Mid 30s those very happy women hit a big fucking reality wall.
Not having kids is my biggest regret in life. It is crushing me.
