They've gone too far.
What possible reason would they have to get his phone? Is this them flexing? Do they want to move the goldfish attention of the public from inflation and the border to Trump? Or is this a sign that they have nothing and are being desperate?
They are desperate and want to send a message to anyone who might be inclined to support Trump that there will be consequences. It's designed to isolate Trump and eliminate him before he even has the chance to run... if for some reason they can't find a way to eliminate him on a trumped-up legal technicality.
