The French wouldn't have had that problem if they hadn't gleefully cheered for the economic sanctions imposed by the other Great Powers on Germany after WWI, without which the Nazis would never have gained power.
The Western-Ukrainian military-industrial complex wouldn't have the problem they're currently having if they had resisted the urge to keep poking Russia like a couple of naughty schoolchildren pelting the teacher's back with spitwads.
In both cases, it seems the rest of us get to keep paying for their absolute hubris.

Alternatively, if they had just enforced the Versailles settlement, it also would not have happened. Simply sending two divisions into the Rhineland in 1936 would possibly have led to the fall of the Nazi regime. Fighting for the Sudeteneland probably would have led to a military coup.
It's pretty rich for the Germans to intentionally and willfully start a war, kill over a million Frenchmen, do enormous amounts of damage to the country, and then cry about peace conditions that were far less onerous than the ones they themselves imposed on Russia. (Then again, France was not severely punished in 1814, despite wreaking havoc for more than two decades.)
I am not at all sure that a mild peace would have prevented World War II. It may have just accelerated it. Germans were not reconciled to defeat, because their armies were deep in France - hence the stab in the back legend.

Correct. Ironically, there is an analogy between Germany and Russia, in that the post-1991 settlement was like Versailles but with much less justification, instead a punishment people who according to George Kennan who peacefully accomplished the greatest feat of the 20th century, the overthrow of communist totalitarianism.
If Ukraine had enforced the Minsk agreements and not shelled ethnic Russians for the last eight years, this whole war could have been avoided. If Zelensky hadn't pussyfooted around pretending like he might join NATO instead of assuring Russia that Ukraine would remain neutral, this war would not have happened.
I was gonna say to Mrs Olenski or whatever is you guys deserve it. Her most of all. The Kiev government got what they had coming. The people obviously less so.
Now British government had the energy crisis coming too. The embrace of green ideology gets you frozen to death in a cold climate. The people need to off with some heads to shape up the govt a bit.
