A quote from GRRM's Fire & Blood: "Once, in the halls of the Red Keep, Daella had encountered a prince from the Summer Isles in his feathered cloak, and squealed in terror. His black skin had made her take him for a demon."

But why should anybody care about the written material?

GRRM would suck a black dick for all the money HBO gave him. He doesn't give a shit.

They outright blacked a major white character then has him standing there in episode 2 preaching about how the old king should marry his mutt daughter to preserve the racial purity of the royal line. LOL.

Holy shit I hate hate-watchers, it's like having a gay crush on your own bully, wtf is wrong with people.

I should say this started as shoulder shrugging on my part but it has gotten to the point where I wonder how doomed we all are and I put the weight of that onto people who, by their own admission, will not even stop watching tv to protest their abuse

I’ve seen numerous messages about not hate watching rings of power and giving it ratings. I hope they stick to that

I like the show. I just ignore the race swapping. At least the Valyrians have light hair.

Anger toward your own is good and pure? If this has offended you maybe you should defend your position instead of sending me nonsense ad hominem.

If you truly think this makes me better than you, then you know how absolutely dead easy it is to improve

Don't empower people who hate you and want you to die.

There, now your worldly knowledge is comparable to mine

I heard he wanted to subvert Tolkien. Looking back on the Ice and Fire books it definitely subverts certain tropes and themes of Tolkien

Tolkein's works elevate, celebrate, and romanticize virtues such as dignity, stoicism, humility, loyalty, honor, self-restraint, duty, yearning, and self-sacrifice.

GRRM's only bring these concepts up to have them fail in the face of unrelenting human ugliness. The entirety of the GoT cycle is pigs fucking in the mud.

Like killing off Ned Stark. I will admit that shocked me

I'm sure that now GRRM would admit his mistake because all good scholars know that medieval Europe had blaqs all over the place.

I ran across someone who said that but I hadn’t done any research but everything I read said it would’ve been very rare to see an African the further north you got in Europe and Southern Europe maybe a few more due to proximity to Northern Africa plus it was part of Roman Empire. But this dude told me there were black people in high positions of European houses. I also fed at that. Maybe some traders or I know Europe was aware of Mansa Musa and I think some trade was done with him but everything I’ve read says it would’ve been rare. Sadly you can’t have a good period piece now.

I think it would have been more common in Roman times than in the Middle Ages. Rome caused people to move around a lot. Well, Rome caused people to be able to move around a lot with roads and whatnot. After its collapse, the world was a lot larger.

Also, IIRC Ethopia's best era was behind it by the high Middle Ages, which is what I take for the real-world inspiration for GoT

That would make sense. Thanks for clarifying

In Central/Southern Europe blacks were almost never seen until recently. I recall seeing a black and white photo (so relatively recent) of someone in Poland touching a black person in astonishment.

Even today you could visit the country and see maybe five black tourists in a city of thousands. The idea of blacks in high positions of European houses is simply ridiculous. They simply were not present in the region.

I've noticed whenever I see one of those spear chuckers cast in a historical/medieval role, they usually have this awkward, suprised look on their faces. Like even they know deep down they absolutely do not belong there, but are being forced into it against their nature. Kind of like a chimpanzee wearing a tuxedo.
