Even if it wasn't, I freaking hate isekai. The last thing I need in any fantasy story is some modern-day asshole constantly commenting on how unbelievable everything is. Is it really too much to expect writers to just make a real genuine fantasy story with a protagonist in its world?
The dialogue is shit but I like the idea of modern characters in to a fantasy setting.
Yep. Ever since reading A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court I loved this kind of story.
Seeing a strange world through the eyes of someone completely relatable can help immerse you into the story. Also, a fish out of water may bring something completely unexpected into this world that can be a unique advantage.
But with this protagonist?
Hard pass.
I generally dislike those kinds of stories because the protagonist is always crying about wanting to go home.
"Oh no, I'm trapped in a fantasy world with these strange powers! If only I could get back home to my 9 to 5 job!"
How about if they initially want to go back, but change their mind later and stay?
