Anyone with industrial hygiene experience could have predicted this. Even so, my workplace wanted people to wear surgical masks that wouldn't be approved for work with hazardous dusts.
It's madness. Surgical masks and false sense of security is running DEEP. Just today I was helping clean out an old building that has a mold problem. People were wearing surgical masks, and even after I explained that those masks leak like a sieve and are pointless for mold spores people still wore them.
It doesn't matter how many times it is explained that surgical masks keep spit from flying out of your mouth into a wound or blood drops/debris out of your mouth, that's it, people are going to use them as talismans of protection for years.
I saw and experienced the same thing in China. The difference in effectiveness of a proper N95 mask (worn properly) and a poorly fitted N95 or a surgical mask is night and day.
Remember when the fires were all burning in 2020 and the CDC (or similar bureaucracy) sent out a thing saying "masks don't work because the particles are too small"?
That was good for a chuckle. And there was a two week period around that time I noticed an obvious increase in mask non-compliance, because the smoke was really bad and trying to wear one when it's already hard to breathe was just making a bad situation worse.

I have to wear a full gasmask & faceshield to deal with pollen. The idea that people think that they are protected from mold (which is probably more dangerous and lethal to them than Covid) with a fucking N95 mask means they should be immediately escorted off the premises for their own safety.
False sense of security leading to more infections, micro particle plastics deposited into lungs from masks, rebreathing same air led to lower air quality, rebreathing air probably gave multiple opportunities for same bacteria, fungi, or virus to make a person sick. psychological trauma from faceless authoritarian masses, damage to the behavior development of children without being able to see proper faces.
If masks worked there would have been a effort made to make people wear them correctly. The fact that no such effort was ever made showed the fact they knew it didn't work.
I work in a book store, the number of inside-out, upside-down, below the nose, and just flat on the face with no effort to fit it around the nose or chin mask I saw back when people wore masks outnumber the times I saw one somewhat correctly worn.
Fear is an excellent motivator. This wasn't behavior motivated by fear, but by compliance and social status.
Fuck, in IT, I have to convince people that it's okay just to click on things because they are scared of breaking the computer. If they are afraid and don't know what to do, they retreat to something familiar. It's why lockdowns were never needed. When people are scared of something, they self-isolate already.
The fact that they didn't care to do it right, means they weren't afraid of doing it wrong.
Complete nonsense. It is nearly impossible to make a seal that is completely impermeable to all gasses, but an aerosol carrying a virus is a thousand times larger than something like butylthiol, the odourant added to natural gas.
the mask commisars weren't saying the masks worked for blocking just aerosol virus but the free floating virus itself, which was my point, if you can smell things through the mask you can breath in the free floating virus because the filter size and the incomplete seals.
and yet my workplace just put up a sign this week saying "Masks are back, mandatory in all buildings!" There is zero doubt in my mind its solely about compliance now.
Despite all the shit Trump got for his handling of the pandemic in general the reality is we didn't do much worse than anyone else and there's nothing he could have done that would have resulted in a better outcomes. I'd bring this up to people in life and some would be more receptive to reality than others. Trump was the President of the United States, not the the whole world. Yet other countries had it just as bad as we did. No sane person would blame Trump for what was happening in Italy early on but that never stopped his enemies in the media for making him out to be the pandemic's villain. His real mistake was listening to Fraudchi.
A few weeks ago, I slept in a full 3M facemask/gasmask because the pollen was giving me bad allergies.
pollen
That's a particulate which is at least 1,000 times greater in size than any virus.
Your fucking cloth mask never did shit, and was never going to.
I saw people who were wearing facemasks giggle and point at a dude in a full gasmask & chem suit combo once in a store. I don't know if he was doing it in protest, or because he just didn't want to catch Covid from people who thought a jab for the wrong strain of the virus, a cloth mask, and no hand washing prevented them from catching or transmitting Covid.
Either way, HE was more properly dressed to avoid catching Covid than anyone in the store. You and your stupid fucking anime mask mean nothing.

Because the surgical mask is the kippah to these people. It is an article of religious attire for the Cult of Wokeness.

It's actually worse than that. The numbers don't just show no benefit to mask usage, they show masks appearing to make things slightly worse.
I'm no doctor, but increasing the humidity of every breath you take is probably probably great for bacteria trying to kill you.
Don't forget: we may have also made the children retarded.
AS LONG AS IT SAVES NEGATIVE ONE LIFE

some people might have worn it incorrectly on purpose as mild form of civil disobedience
For some, probably, but I've also seen people wearing it under their nose, in their car, by themselves.

What a gigantic waste of ressource and damage done to the social fabric.
It’s almost like that was obvious from the beginning lol
if you can smell things from outside the mask, it ain't working
There is no fucking way your faggy fucking mask is going to stop a virus particle when it wouldn't be approved for mold.
yes I know, that's what I was getting at. the people who put on the mask in their cars by themselves thought the mask would block everything

He could've done a better job trying to keep the lockdownists in check.
