WaPo Editorial Board: ‘America First’ is America at its worst (archive.ph)

History also confirms that “America First” was America at its worst: the slogan of pre-World War II isolationists who urged the Roosevelt administration to avoid Europe’s troubles.

Why was that the worst? Why should America have gotten involved in a European conflict?

All the more reason to address the America Firsters on the merits, by pointing out that security engagement abroad is not a zero-sum enterprise, but rather an investment in stabilizing situations that might otherwise spiral out of control

The reason these people care about Ukraine's border and not the US border is because they instinctvely recognize that Ukraine is a border region of the GAE, while Mexico and South America are firmly secured provinces. They see the US proper as an economic zone within the empire.

The fucking naked audacity of claiming the United States is a stabilizing force.

NATO is certainly a stabilizing force for its members. But that's mostly because it prevents intra-alliance tensions, rather than protection from the outside. The reason France is not threatened by Germany's re-armament is NATO, otherwise the security dilemma would wreak havoc.

If France left NATO again (they have in the past), things would become very interesting. And they really should given what's happening.

I believe they only left the centralized command, and not the alliance itself.

spending less than 0.2 percent of U.S. output helping Ukraine

Firstly, using percentage of GDP (or "output") as a measure here is incredibly misleading. A GDP of $20.94 trillion doesn't mean the country is $20.94 trillion richer at the end of the year. Much of that money is reinvested in the economy. A better measure might be comparing it to the federal budget of $4.79 trillion, of which $40 billion would be 0.8%. I would call that a significant chunk. NASA's annual budget is $24 billion.

Secondly, this assumes that the money actually goes to "helping Ukraine", whatever that means anyways. How many times has the US spent money on something only to ultimately have it go to the very thing they were spending that money to fight in the first place?

Shut up, treasonous Russian stooge and fool, and accept the increase of your chocolate ration from 25 grams to 20 grams.

The same people accusing the United States of being a meddling colonialist empire are now demanding that the United States engage in international meddling.

It's all so tiresome.

America is at its worst when it is not funding proxy wars and getting millions of people killed. Got it.
