I've had yahoo mail since the very early 2000s and to get to it I have to see the yahoo main page and news stories. They are an aggregator but generally their news is very far left and very pro lgbt/whatever the trendy racial narrative is (they turned off comments on articles because it was very clear that the majority of the readers were not aligned with they yahoo staff).
I saw the headline of an article about an interview with Millie Bobbie Brown from Stranger Things talking about being "sexualized" at a young age. What do they mean when they say sexualize? Is that like the male gaze where feminists screech if a man finds a woman attractive, but it's ok for them to go on and on about how hot certain guys are to them?
It is also confusing because some female singers will have songs glorifying slutty behavior and that is seen as empowering. So is sexualization another meaningless term like male gaze?
If she is calling out actual despicable behavior in Hollywood then great, but unfortunately so many terms have been watered down.
Sadly not uncommon for Hollywood. I’ve just seen the term specialized thrown around a lot. As well as male gaze
The whole Casting Couch System has been an open "secret" for a very long time, and it dates right back to Broadway.
Meh, the “casting couch” has existed since humankind has when you break it down to the basic principles. Hunter wants deer, hunter observes deer to find weakness, hunter exploits weakness and kills the deer. Guy wants to fuck hot women, he studies what gets guys laid, makes it so women must go through him to get what they want. The only reason it’s an issue is because our gynocentric society still pretends women are incapable of self agency.
Oh. Yea I’ve heard about that. And they have the nerve to lecture us
So she went to a public school? (I jest.)
She's probably talking about becoming sexually aware involuntarily, either through abuse or exposure (which if you're young enough, counts as abuse.) Given Hollywood, she's signaling abuse.
As an aside: I remember (but cannot find links to) ambiguous images, which were patterned (a la Escher) to resemble dolphins or sexual organs-- depending on how you looked at them. Utilizing such an image you could quickly tell if a child had exposure to sexuality, because they'd either say "dolphins" or "dicks." Three or four similar answers would drill down whether that toddler had inappropriate exposure pretty quickly.
I'd imagine such tools have been memory-holed, since the very idea of childhood/sexual innocence are under ideological assault.
When hollywood faggots use that term they want pity for being a women. Its not calling out pedos it is a part of meetoo bullshit.
It's neo-Puritanism.
They sound like the people who brought in the original Hayes and Comics Codes, frankly.
For understanding, you need empathy. Not sympathy necessarily, but the ability to see where others are coming from is quite important.
From our perspective, such a situation invokes immediate disgust and is alarming. Fairly incomprehensible. But this is not our perspective. It is the life and times of a child of Pedowood, as Hollywood has been known to be called in some circles.
You've seen the pictures and stories of child-sniffin' Joe Biden, if you've been around here any length of time. Has he raped any of those children? Of the ones in the memes, probably not. But there's no question they were treated sexually by him. Had been sexualized.
The term "sexualization" has become increasingly useless due to overuse, very true. It can mean anything from "drugged and conditioned into a sex slave" to "someone once ate one of my gummy bears I left out in a candy dish" (to reference a specific infamous incident).
Given the lack of meaning behind the word, you need to intuit it by context. Without the article itself and only a title, no idea what it could mean in that circumstance. But Hollywood very much likes Joe Biden and his habits, if those habits are emulated upon this actor, that's well within the general definitions.
Thanks. I’m aware of the creepy nature of Hollywood but like you said that term has become watered down due to overuse. Similar to when a woman on social media will say that she felt violated and it turns out that the “violation” was that a guy she thinks is ugly asked her on a date.
She looked like a boy, honestly I fail to see how she was sexualized but I've not read the article. Maybe she just wants attention?
That’s what I was thinking. Yes there are creepy men out there but they have made it to where a man should feel guilty if he finds a woman attractive
And then they wonder why men are hesitant to approach women or why accusations are not taken seriously at times
She is talking about how magazines, tv magazines like E!, and other perverts were talking about how "Adult" she looked and how they kept saying shit about how she was acting that you'd only say about adults. They treated her like a slut in training wheels instead of a barely teenage girl. Typical pedowood shit.
They just want power.
Yes, you've got it. They usually mean it in the "men found me attractive and wanted to sleep with me". When it comes to actresses, they mean the directors took care to depict them in a sexualized manner. Stuff in movies can be pretty subtle. I haven't watched the TV series so I can't comment to it. It could be anything from how she was forced to dress, some dialogue with sexual innuendo, to instructions for her on how to eat or exercise to make sure she doesn't get fat (women see being forced to be skinny as sexualizing them because men find skinnier women more attractive even if women want to be pigs).
Off the actual filming, you're going to have other child actors that would have found her attractive and tried to make advances on her. She may have even been pressured by friends/family or peers to be more sexual to help her career, etc...
One way or another, no one can avoid the fact that when it comes to young women, sex is really all anyone looks at them for. Think 16-18yo girl and seriously tell me any redeeming qualities about them other than sex appeal. They aren't going to be engaging conversationalists, they aren't going to have superior skills or knowledge in anything, they aren't smart, they aren't wise but they are at the peak of their life in terms of sexual attraction. Women absolutely hate this fact and try to do everything they can to play the victim.
I doubt she's talking about in the acting roles, these child stars receive "fan" letters from some undoubtedly unhinged people. These young actors should absolutely have someone screening their letters.
People are dumb and assholes exist on the internet.... this should not be a surprise to anyone.
Most likely she's just playing the victim card for sympathy and attention.
Possibly, but internet rando's are creepy, and Hollywood sycophants even more so. Given that I wouldn't immediately discount the story.
I watched the first three seasons of stranger things but won’t watch anymore. It appears to be doing the usual of sidelining male characters and adding the lesbian character after setting up a possible romance. I didn’t understand what she added to the show.
