Trump got in trouble because they accused him of trying to send anti-aircraft weapons to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden... through Hillary Clinton's email servers... which were based in Ukraine for some reason... after finding out that several Ukranian government officials were convicted of meddling in the US election... HMMMMMM.
To be honest, he'd probably have moved some of that $85 Billion dollars of military equipment we gave to Pakistan over to Ukraine. Putin probably would have still quietly moved troops into the East, maybe even recognized the states, but he wouldn't have done anything like attack Kyiv.

I think the sanctions are just there to give the Chinese an opening to fund Russia into prolonging a conflict with the West. That being said, the West isn't even entirely interested because of the energy supply from Russia. Maybe the Saudis will love it since Canada and the US are intentionally having their energy infrastructure shut down so no natural gas can get mined to relieve Europe. Again: I'd bet money on the Chinese pushing that.
Yeah, I think they could have negotiated what they want. Which if I had to guess is at most acknowledge Crimea which is already theirs anyway, Ukraine stay out of NATO, maybe something with those Eastern regions Donestk and the like. Which I'm sure was met with the US and EU admins going on the whole, "we don't negotiate with violent madmen or whatever."
