Same as most awards these days. All industry insiders slapping each other on the back.

funny enough that is the point. Viewership for Oscars has tanked in the last few years and is expected to get worse since they made some racial/ gender/ LGBTQPIAP2S+ quotas for any movie in order to get nominated.

So youre saying that Brie Larson could have won awards for Captain Marvel, but also no one will ever know because the viewership is so godawful low?

im okay with that 👌👌

Nightmare Alley

Has anyone seen this?

Wikipedia says it was a massive flop (grossing half the budget) but I think del Toro makes interesting movies.

And I’ve watched the original 1947 version. I hear that this version sticks much closer to the ending of the book…

In other words:

Industry insiders, nominate other industry insiders, for awards created by industry insiders, and televised by industry insiders, to reward industry insiders, who then claim that industry insiders are superior because they have so many industry insider awards.

But this is pretty much true of the Oscars since, like, forever, with maybe a few exceptions. The Academy has always been a bunch of fart-sniffing snobs.

There was a time when the Oscars had some good movies. For me it was Oscars had fun good to watch movies and the Golden Globes had pretentious politically inspired movies that no one wanted to watch. But for the past some years they've turned Oscars in to pretentious diversity awards. Now it is even mandatory to have a certain percentage of "minorities" (non white males) to even be nominated for the Oscars. Movies like Titanic, Lord of the ring or The Shawshank Redemption would not even be nominated.

I love how Spielberg was mad that White people played the Puerto Ricans in the original West Side Story, except:

  1. Puerto Ricans are White.

  2. He cast a bunch of beaners from South America who are not Puerto Ricans. Maria is played by a Colombian.

I'm happy to say that I've only ever heard about two of those and seen none.

Don't Look Up

I hate how popular this movie is. It was recommended to me by several people. The movie is a pathetic caricature that was incredibly boring half way thru. I understand that they wanted to parody the shallowness of the current generation but it made no sense considering it was during COVID, where the entire fucking world is going completely overboard for one of the most pathetic virus ever to get out of a Chinese lab.

From what I can tell they wanted to make a case how the general population and politicians do not care about "real issues".

It is a big "TRUST THE SCIENCE" sign, it can be overlap with climate or anything that the science is saying, including COVID.

Considering how politicians are throwing away human rights to "fight COVID" and how freaking serious the world takes climate change it is just ridiculous.

A much better movie would have been to show how many times the scientists have been wrong. If you falsely predict the end of the world a dozen times I may not trust you next time even if it ends up being true. It would make for a great case against climate alarmism.

That's the thing. You can actually interpret its metaphor in any way you might like. I didn't hate it, and the "authorities don't give a shit" can be spot on about pretty much anything (like them apparently not seeing the trucker convoy coming, and thinking we'd sheeple our way quietly into their globalist chinese masking cult.)

It does make a point about them being scientists and people not caring about that. Is not a movie to hate but it was boring. It was suppose to make people have this revelation about the current state of the world but it just felt it was made for teenagers. If anything that movie belonged in "I'm 14 and this is deep" subreddit.
