It would not work, because the assassination of even tyrants results in a wave of sympathy - and increased repression by the state. It also helps that even talking about it allows them to isolate you.
The two assassination attempts against Hitler resulted in much sympathy from even Catholics and social democrats, the most stalwart opponents of the regime.
