I love the civilization type games and as a life long sci-fi fan I’ve always wanted a civilization type game but in space. Is Starcraft that type of game or should I look for something else?

Stellaris is what you're looking for.
So much paid dlc though... They suck your wallet dry for sure
This is why the nerds who made Creamapi (Look up Stellaris Creamapi on cs dot rin dot ru to find it) are worth preserving, all the DLC on a legit game with none of the cost.
Good news, it's on gog so gog-games.com means you can download it there. Bad news, alot of the mods are tied to the steam store, meaning download through the workshop is also a pain. I managed to get a playthrough working with the Alex Jones announcer voice pack but you have to manually change every mod you download to work. Was a pain. But fun.
If you like Starcraft, Sins of a Solar Empire is a macro scale RTS that has a few good mods for it, halo with flood, star trek and mass effect.
Downloaded this last week and haven't had a chance to play it. I was really hoping to see it here.
Thanks!
If you can endure the ancient GUI you can always go to the source, sid meier's alpha centauri.
Edit: Missed that you wanted it to be in space, stellaris, endless space,Galactic Civilizations III as other have recommended match the criteria better.
I love old Sierra games so 90s graphics are fine
Gal Civ III is going to be free on epic next week.
I bet you'll still enjoy Alpha Centauri. It's got tons of lore and fancy technology to satisfy any sci-fi lover.
Alpha Centauri. Is the reason why people pretend it does not exist.
Thank you!
Master of Orion 2 is great if you can handle 90s graphics.
Age of wonders planetfall, stellaris, there’s a 4x war hammer 40k too I believe. Endless space is another decent choice, and beyond earth is decent.
Thank you
Starcraft is an RTS. Would be up your alley if you enjoy Age of Empires.
Stellaris is good, maybe slower paced than Civ.
I've also heard good things about Galactic Civilizations III but never tried it out
My personal favorite turn-based sci-fi game has always been Master of Orion 2
Man, MoOs were good. I most often played the race that researched an entire category at once, not just one item in it.
Same. Psilons were the best, outside of a custom race that you also bought the Creative trait for
Cool! I’ll look them up
Apparently there will be a new Master of Orion... From Wargaming??
Thanks!
