Daily reminder that the "natives" only exist because white people felt like preserving them and their culture. They were dying out before the settlers reached the country.
Our new data-driven best estimate is a death toll of 56m by the beginning of the 1600s – 90% of the pre-Columbian indigenous population and around 10% of the global population at the time.
When somebody talks about institutionalized discrimination and how we have to stop it, agree and mention that the tribal lands should all be assimilated because those poor native Americans aren't protected by our laws and don't have access to services like regular citizens do.
They'll say, uh, we meant the blacks.
But shouldn't we start with the most egregious and widespread institutions of discrimination?
Either they realize that they're full of shit, or they'll help end this original sin.
You forget their brain is compartmentalized. When it comes to their precious groups, what they do is fine as long as they stick within their own groups doing it, or attacking whites.
You're right of course, but it's my belief (from doing classified work) that compartments can be overloaded in most people.
Everything that's compartmentalized takes effort, as every time the topic comes up they think to themselves 'except for the natives'.
Generally you deal with it by avoiding the topic. You don't talk about it with outsiders, but these people talk about it all the time to everybody - it's their whole life.
I can understand why some native Americans buy into the idea that their tribal government would be better to them the US government, but god damn, they're fools to believe it.

Could you provide some links to read up on this?

Still, a bunch of them just got a reality check.
Those people are god damn fools. Reservations are some of the most corrupt shitholes in the world.
Yes, they are.
It's funny that 'off the reservation' means having 'crazy ideas', because you'd have to be crazy to stay on the reservation.
They want leadership by mob rule, but not reformations and elections by it.
