He's just an old man who still believes this is the country he grew up in. He probably naively trusts that the jury will acquit Kyle because of the sheer propensity of evidence in his favor. A jury acquittal plays better than mistrial with prejudice, though I suppose that's me being naive because it doesn't matter to the current media either way

An acquittal also stops them from going after Kyle again on the same charges with a different judge which could happen if he threw it out or if they got the mistrial they seemed to be aiming for.

Mistrial with prejudice also precludes retrial.

State could appeal in that case and potentially get the "with prejudice" removed, depending on how the appeals court is feeling.

there's a reason the words "with prejudice" are present in the motion for mistrial that the defense filed.

If it is "merely" declared a mistrial, it'd go down as you say.

But, if it is declared "with prejudice", then they literally cannot charge Kyle with the same crimes from the same event.

Sure, they'll near-certainly shop around for a libtard "judge" to put Kyle on trial for a different litany of "crimes" from the same event, but that's a whole fuck-load harder than just repeat charging him with the exact same spurious bullshit.

It looks like he’s seen the media pile on and is afraid of political retribution. He started off fair then allowed a disgusting amount of blatant transgressions by the prosecution.

To be fair the defense isn't pressing the issues at all and allowing the prosecution to waffle their way out

both of you correct. The judge is wanting the media to like him (sad!). The defense is wanting the judge to like them (terrible!).

IMHO no matter how the trial goes, Rittenhouse is going to be murdered, in prison or out of it, he did kill one of them after all.

Yeah I doubt anyone in prison would care to go after him unless the guards move him to a specific cell block with that intention.

It seems to me like he really wants the jury to come back with an acquittal verdict, and for obvious reasons. He doesn't want to override the jury when the entire country is watching. If we get an acquittal, it is a better situation for everyone. If we get a guilty verdict, the motion for mistrial will still need to be ruled on and hopefully he has the balls to go through with granting it. These motions don't just go away, unless they become moot.

The defense has a lot of options if we get an unfavorable verdict.

I cannot fathom an outright guilty verdict. That would be a worse verdict than the OJ trial.

Then again, this is a Clown World we're dealing with so....

There are many charges. I don't foresee a guilty verdict on every charge. But I could see a guilty verdict on some of the lesser includeds as a "compromise," although still a compromise that destroys this innocent young man's life.

He’s a cowardly old man that’s scared the media is portraying him as a Nazi.

We have no justice anymore. We just have mob rule.

Our right to self defense is already gone. Consider all the evidence/videos in Rittenhouse's favor and it is still taking the jury so long to reach a verdict. What hope does anyone have in a jury trial where things won't be as favorable?
