The optics position is something like "voting should be reserved for net taxpayers and those who have shown willingness to sacrifice for their fellow citizens"
That would effectively remove voting from most women, students, and those who live off of welfare, unemployment, and disability. And shift the voting base significantly rightwards.
If I were an American, I'd be very mad at the people who turned my country from the world's only superpower into an international laughing stock.
