Confederates were inherently conservatives and reactionaries, which has always occupied the "right wing" of the left-right political spectrum as used in modern history. They resisted the progressive (at the time) end of human enslavement/forced labour on just the basis of skin colour.

Of course the US federal government failed to properly dispossess Southern slavers of their property to redistribute to the formerly enslaved population, instead opting to do nothing and allow the North & South to continue white supremacy through unequal enforcement of laws, Jim Crow, lynching blacks, prison slave labour (hence the unequal application of state violence, policing, and unequal sentencing of blacks which is an ongoing problem).

The more time passes since the so-called "end of slavery", the easier it is to deny reparations despite the enormous disparity in generational wealth condensation enabled by 200 years of slavery and 150+ years of institutional and societal racism and kicking the can down the road.

Au contraire, they were revolutionaries. Unless you accept that they were merely preserving the American Revolution, which is what they themselves argued.

They resisted the progressive (at the time) end of human enslavement/forced labour on just the basis of skin colour.

It wasn't based on skin color, Mr. British or whatever freakazoid you are, as there were many free blacks around.

instead opting to do nothing and let the South continue...lynching blacks

Just imagine erasing the countless whites (Republicans, for that matter) who were lynched for things like attempting to vote.

prison slave labour (hence the unequal application of state violence, policing, and unequal sentencing of blacks which is an ongoing problem).

Hahahaha. Yes, it's "unequal sentencing" and not grossly disproportionate rates of offending that's the issue.

The more time passes since the so-called "end of slavery",

Imagine being such a white POS that you claim that blacks were still slaves after abolition.

despite the enormous disparity in generational wealth condensation

Thomas Sowell has already conclusively demonstrated that slavery was, if anything, a net burden on the places in question.

condensation

It's not fog, Johnny. That too, is condensation.

Why are you using reality to counter this poor mans creation mythology? All slavery was bad, everything was racist, the federal government was the good guys, and we needed the civil rights act to end racial discrimination, but it still occurs everywhere.

Why waste your time with this idiot. He sees blacks as helpless victims who aren’t capable of taking any responsibility in their lives. Slavery had an effect no doubt but to use that as an excuse today is a bit ridiculous while ignoring other pressing issues.

I was actually hoping he'd take me up on the "were the Confederates Revolutionaries or Conservatives?" Because that is quite an interesting question. However, it's doubtful whether one could have an interesting debate with someone who can only repeat pre-baked shibboleths.

Slavery just socialized some of the labor cost and put more wealth in the hands of slave owners at the expense of everyone else. The only circumstance when slavery will increase the output of a society is when the labor supply just doesn't exist, true during very early colonial period but not during the revolution and certainly not during antebellum period.

Here's a crazy thought. Maybe Blacks will stop having these issues if they stop supporting the party that's been doing it to them since getting off the boat?

The point of the Meme is Democrats being so dumb they use Democrat's history and racist cities as justification to vote Democrat over and over.

They resisted the progressive (at the time) end of human enslavement/forced labour on just the basis of skin colour.

That wasn't the reason for the war according to Lincoln, the corporate railroad attorney turned President. He is the only president to call for an amendment to make slavery express and irrevocable:

I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution, which amendment, however, I have not seen, has passed Congress, to the effect that the federal government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose not to speak of particular amendments, so far as to say that holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.

He also explicitly stated that he would only invade the south if they didn't pay their taxes:

In doing this there needs to be no bloodshed or violence; and there shall be none, unless it be forced upon the national authority. The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy, and possess the property and places belonging to the government, and to collect the duties and imposts; but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion -- no using of force against or among the people anywhere.

The civil war started because the Northern robber-barons wanted to tax the South to subsidize their corporate railroads.

Spez: As a native American whose ancestors fought for the Confederacy against the Federal government that displaced them, I'll be happy to accept the $2 million, adjusted for inflation, owed to me as compensation for the slaves and land stolen by whitey.

Which is why it makes so little sense to blame him for the Civil War. He bent over backwards to appease the South. Although this would merely make explicit what was already believed - that the Constitution protected slavery.

He also explicitly stated that he would only invade the south if they didn't pay their taxes:

Which they of course didn't. That was just face-saving on his part, to pretend that he was going to continue to enforce the laws, when he sure as hell was not going to.

The civil war started because the Northern robber-barons wanted to tax the South to subsidize their corporate railroads.

That makes little sense. This was not even cited as a grievance. And secession happened way before the new President even took office.

Personal liberty laws and the absence of protection for slavery in the territories were. Though the actual causes are quite complex. Once the first state forced a crisis, your choice is no longer whether or not you find secession desirable, but whether you're going to join SC in defying the Feds, or hanging SC out to dry.

You're killing the poor guy. There's no way he's going to solve that equation without his brain breaking even more than it was already.

Boiling the civil war down to a single issue will always be a bit spurious, but the tariff debate(Tariff of Abominations, Black Tariff, Walker Tariff, etc) was the most signifcant clevage point as it had almost pushed South Carolina over the edge in 1833.

Hardly really. The South was in control of the federal government for nearly all the time before the 1860s. And let us assume that the real issue, or the most important issue as you say, was tariffs. It is really strange that it was barely or not brought up in the extended negotiations about trying to mend the rift. It was always about concessions regarding slavery, and particularly slavery in the territories.

Well, precisely, and the significance of that Sean Wilentz describes in No Property In Men. However, considering the fact that the federal government, this was de facto protection for slavery, and the 3/5 Compromise, far from "WE WUZ CONSIDERED 3/5 OF A HUMAN", was a great boon to the slaveholders, who could now gain increased representation.

Why don’t you give away money to descendants of slavery? So all black ppl are helpless victims? Honestly shouldn’t that be why you shouldn’t trust govt? Or wait around for some check to solve your problems?

That would defeat the purpose. He wants to commandeer the resources of other people and give that to the descendants of slaves, in order to gain the political loyalty of those people at no cost to himself.

Honestly modern day leftists have taught me that as a kid I should’ve told my parents that slavery was the reason for my bad behavior.

Seriously though the encouragement of antisocial behavior and treating black people like they can’t help but commit crime has shown to be detrimental. My cousins get mad at me when I say I think high crime rates is a bigger issue in 2021 than rehashing slavery.
