I say this with a degree of self-awareness, that I personally think that what Biden did in Afghanistan was utterly, utterly shameful, and that Trump's "peace deal" with the Taliban was almost equally pathetic, and worth less than the paper it was printed on. I say this also as someone who believes that Australia needs to stand up to China, and should, at present, have a functional navy, and defence force in general. However...
Yesterday, Australia announced that it intends to rip up a contract to build French, non-nuclear subs, and will instead (probably, at some point in the future, but we have to pay now, lol) build nuclear subs, based on a US or British design. This is an incredibly stupid, almost patently insane decision, that could well end up costing tens of billions more dollars than if we had just gone with the French, or with Japanese subs as THIS SAME GOVERNMENT proposed, under a different leader, less than a decade ago.
This also seems like a pretty absurd decision, politically. Nuclear doesn't fly, with people in Aus. My state literally will not allow these submarines to dock, if they ever get built. Nor will NZ. So... It seems like political suicide. The only "saving grace", and why this decision was probably actually made, is that they can be "built" in Adelaide, using parts made in the US (this won't actually happen, but bear with me), meaning ship-building "jobs" in a country that otherwise decimated that industry, and therefore, perhaps, some votes for these morons currently clinging to power...
Right, so all that aside, on to the disturbing bit: leftist cheerleaders, both in the media, and on Reddit, saying how "wonderful" this all is, and how it will allow us to "show it" to China, and, I dunno "scare" them, or some bullshit? These same fuckheads are cheering for the US to literally build more bases in Aus, and want us to become nuclear-armed. I'm not kidding. I saw that on r/Australia today.
I can't tell you how fucking bizarre that is. But it's not the first time I've seen this sentiment. These are the same people who cheered on the Libya debacle, and the same lot who wanted the Syrian and Iraqi war on ISIS/the rebels to drag on longer, to suit whatever agenda they may have had. That's without mentioning how they feel about the fucking Afghan debacle...
I just... Can't, with these people. Regardless of your view on subs, this whole thing stinks, and it is so very, very apparent that these people who claim to care so much about "human rights" or "the environment" only do so as long as the mainstream media (particularly their beloved guardian, and public broadcasters) tells them to feel that way, and will happily switch to promoting literal warmongers and statist tyrants, as soon as the wind blows that way...
Is this the same in the US and elsewhere, with your "leftists" or "liberals"..? Are they also good little bootlicking warmongers, when it suits them? Because even just a glimpse at Stupidpol or Breadtube would fucking suggest so, consequences be damned, and hypocrisy be damned. None of them EVER sign up to be the ones going off and fighting, though, I may add. They don't even fire the fucking missiles, or order the drone strike. But they'll happily cheer it on, until it becomes clear that civilians were the ones slaughtered, at which point the outrage and screaming becomes their default...
I mean, just look at how they turned on Assange, guys, as soon as he no longer suited their politics/aims. Even fucking AUSTRALIANS, the country where the guy is literally from!!!
I'm so done, peeps. Fuck leftists. Fuck "liberals", both small and large L, in Aus and Canada. Fuck statists. Fuck (increasingly petty) tyrants. Fuck warmongers. Fuck the military-industrial complex (Eisenhower was very, very right). And finally fuck this stupid, corrupt, pathetic country that I literally cannot leave. :-(
Finding a proper way to adequately describe the current left is.... difficult — to say the least. So many descriptions would be perfectly appropriate at this point that it would be hard to simply pick one. To your point, though, if I had to pick an overarching theme for them, it would probably be: schizophrenic retards saturated in consumerism.
They have no morals or principles. At least, none that I can see. Sure, they definitely advocate for a lot of insane crap, but at the end of the day, their views become exceedingly flexible for political expediency. Regardless of the situation, they will always follow the glowing screen that they worship so that they fit in with what they view as "mainstream society."
Anyone who can remember this time last year, Trump was platforming on withdrawing the troops from the middle-east. It was something you would think a majority of people would have been onboard with, right? Nope! Not the left. Social media exploded with cries of how we shouldn't withdraw, it would dishonor the troops, it would destabilize the region, we needed to see the job through to the end, etc. All because that was the opposite position of what Trump was taking. In essence, the left suddenly became full-on pro-war. It was baffling. Even Biden mentioned that he planned on maintaining a presence there, because why the hell not? Orange man bad! Fast-forward to the disastrous withdraw that took place and suddenly these same people went straight back to defending everything. In their psychosis, they even tried to blame Trump for it, too.
We see examples like this all the time; instances where it seems like they have the collective memory of a goldfish. The vaccine is another good example.
Just a couple months ago, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said, "vaccinated people do not carry the virus."
Biden himself also chimed in, saying, "You're not going to get Covid if you have these vaccinations."
Countless other people echoed the same exact sentiment — they were saying it for most of the summer. Fast-forward to now and the goalposts, once again, have been moved. Everyone on the left completely pretends that it never happened and some even maintain the delusion altogether. There are so many instances of this that it's staggering.
All of these things combined, as well as much more, have made it so I don't trust anything that the people in power say at all. Even if they were telling the truth about things — which they're consistently and demonstrably not — I've been given very little reason to believe them after all the crap they've done. I don't give a crap about the average leftist retard, since they're nothing but consumer-driven morons without a single individual thought amongst them; however, the people in power have made it explicitly clear that they despise me and want me to be as miserable as possible. They've endorsed dehumanization, labels, censorship, deplatforming, and even violence, against me and those I love.
Knowing that, I'll do everything in my power to make their lives and jobs as difficult as possible, because I can be just as petty and spiteful as them. If they want to subjugate people, they're going to have to earn it. I'm younger than all of the people at the top of the commie-boomer liberal elites little circle. I can afford to drag shit out and I can definitely hold a grudge.
Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.
Love that book.
What's funny is that for those who remember, "strong" females were the ones the enforced the authoritarian rules in it. I couldn't help but juxtapose that with current day Australia, where they always seem to have a female officer making dystopian announcements.
You summed it up.
They have no principles or standards, besides wanting power. Nothing else matters to them.
It's not a leftist or liberal thing, it's standard political corruption and New World Order caliber ammunition.
Australia has just fallen into the hands of the US military industrial complex. It will pay the bill.
Yup, while my idiot "countrymen" (many of whom are probably bots/don't even live here, if we're talking Reddit) not just cheer it on, but are almost falling over themselves to say how great it is. Just because that's what the ABC and the Guardian tell them to believe.
It's fucking disgusting, honestly...
The French have apparently been fucking up their side of the contract for quite a while now, which is why the Australian government started looking elsewhere. It still might not be the right decision - the new project might run into the same problems that have been plaguing the Barracudas - but it's not an arbitrary one.
And nuclear powered =/= nuclear armed. We're trying to get replacements for our current attack subs, not ballistic missile subs.
I was going to say it elsewhere, but you've pretty much made the important point when it comes to "nuclear" subs - Australia and New Zealand are full of maroons unable to morally or intellectually differentiate between propulsion and armament.
I was surprised, pleasantly surprised, to see 2 national TV broadcasters explicitly mention that it was propulsion.
Oh I'm fully aware that the proposal is for nuclear propulsion, not for nuclear arms (though I'm sure they'll happily change that, a few years down the line, when it's politically expedient to do so). I don't agree that we should have that, either, though...
It's stupid, unnecessary tech that we do not need, will cost yet more billions of taxpayer dollars, won't generate jobs here, and, though I'm sure I'll get skewered by some here for saying it, will almost certainly be used as a backdoor to construction a nuclear power industry here, domestically, which I vehemently disagree with...
However, what I'm ranting about, here, and my main complaint, was the reaction in the fucking media, and on Reddit in particular...
"Fuck yeah war machines!" "This might mean the Americans base a sub fleet here, yayyy!!!" "Bring on the war with China - they're insane!" "This is such a worthwhile use of taxpayer dollars. Our security is the most important thing! Nothing matters more than that!" "Man, we really need this - might help us get nuclear power in Australia!!" "We have all that uranium - we should make our own nuclear weapons!"
Etc, etc, etc.
Some of those molten lava hot takes were from Australian media sources (both ABC and NewsCorp are rapid, on this, interestingly), and some, notably, are off fucking Reddit. Specifically, r/Australia, which wears its extreme leftist credentials very much on its sleeve, and bans anyone, me included, for even the slightest deviation into "wrongthink".
These people are certifiably insane. I'm sorry, but they are. Fuck the subs and fuck Scummo, but fuck the media and Reddit, perhaps even more (in this case)...
Every leftist is a little tyrant at heart. As permanent victims, they have no control over their lives and the only way to get a taste is to become cheerleaders for authoritarians.
You gotta keep in mind that a lot of those folks are paid shills
Nuclear sub as in carries nukes or nuclear sub as in runs on a nuclear reactor?
The latter. Australia wants replacements for its current diesel/electric attack subs.
Then what's the big deal? Clean energy is upsetting to these pussies?
Side note: I really wish people wouldn't delete their comments on my posts shortly after posting them...
In this case, I did (get to) read it, but it's just really fucking annoying...
So if you see this: stop dirty deleting. It's the coward's way out/defence.
Hell, I may be somewhat of a coward in other aspects of my life, but even I've learned not to do that, anymore. I've NEVER done it here. I never even did it on Reddit. So for once, I'm not a hypocrite about this particular thing, so I can rightfully say - stand by your comments, and don't just "scrub them" because you've changed your mind slightly, or whatever...
Jeez Louise. It's not that hard, folks.
Also, we really need a way to archive posts, here, to prevent exactly this (i.e. losing those comments), so admins, if ever you see this... If we could come up with our own version of Ceddit/Rareddit/Saidit, that'd be dope, hey?
Eh, I don't have an issue depending on what's deleted. If it's an actual comment that you delete as soon as you start getting pushback or proven for spouting bs, yeah that's pretty heckin yellow. But more than a few times I'll type something and delete it right after because I feel it didn't really add anything of substance to the thread.
Usually when something makes me mad and I just pop off a hot take that's just pure emotion. Brings negativity in when it's not needed and forestalls anything useful happening out of that exchange, ime. Having a comment archiver like reddit would be pretty handy though
If we build bases in aus, you will be tiny - bit more protected from teh chinese, so thats probably a net win for your country. cant do the rest atm.
I just watched Man of La Mancha last night. It's a well done production, but I got tired of the "Mexican border" political commentary. They made sure someone ordered them to not speak Spanish, which is weird since the play is in Spain. Then they have the shiny blankets as props, which was cool when used but the cast made sure to mention it. I asked what they were for, and all of them mentioned trump.
Kind of awkward since I went to see the play with Hispanics.
