As someone that owns a few hundred acres and stands to inherit quite a bit more I keep on top of this.

That was his plan but a few things have happened. There's about a dozen Democratic house members that have told Pelosi that if they push this they lose their districts next year and this was before the past month. Now they lack any political capital to get it done.

The only way they can get this done is through budget reconciliation and that window for this year has closed and with next year being an election year and things not looking great I doubt they'll want to push it.

Even in the Senate there are a couple of Senators that are likely to oppose this like Dick Durban who has relied on enough democratic support down state from farmers.

Yeah pretty much. So transparent. They may be satisfied with China style fascism, allowing a few large crops to control all viable farmland and just tell them what to do.

Either way, it’s all just about raw power and control.

Large corporations will continue to buy out family farms and will have an even larger monopoly. Indirect corporate welfare.

Some repubs are wrong about the dems being socialists. its socialism for the very few. even more damaging because we get all the downsides of supporting socialism with none of the benefits being spent on the people.

That's what socialism always is. That's how socialism has always turned out. It's always tyranny, it always turns into abject squalor for everyone but the party bosses.

There are no benefits to socialism, and there never will be. It is a lie, sold to the world's parasites to inspire them to violence against the useful, decent people.

Theres benefits to social spending. Good infrastructure, cheap healthcare and all those other nice european things. But social spending can't be done by corrupt people.

Infrastructure is a legitimate purview of a government. Healthcare is not.

The only reason the European systems appear to work is because they are parasites, offloading their costs onto us. They have price caps, we don't, so we effectively subsidize their costs by having the same marketplace where they are basically allowed to cheat on behalf of their citizens. Furthermore, they can only manage to spend as much as they do on socialist nonsense because they don't have to pay for their own national defense.

Their militaries are a shambles, a disgrace to civilization. They don't even come close to what they'd need to upkeep a genuine defensive force. And they can get away with this because we stupidly defend them for free.

Europe's prosperity is stolen. Leeched off the back of the American taxpayer.

this transfer taxncould be as high as 43.4%, the worst idea that has been proposed in terms of its impact on agriculture in my lifetime.

thats what aoc means by tax the rich/ tax the rich single farm families, dont tax the socialites in ny whose cocks she sucks.

We need to fight to keep the current estate tax system that we worked so hard to develop and convince policy makers to drop this idea of the transfer tax. If a change like this is adopted, agriculture as we know it will disappear and may never recover.

Our corrupt politics is really enough to piss off a motherfucker.

Not downplaying how terrible of an idea this policy is, but I'm almost certain there are ways to circumvent this if it were implemented. Example, instead of leaving the land to your heir, just "sell" the land to them for a lowball price like $1.

The IRS doesn't let you get away with that

Not to mention that death, and inheritance, can't always be planned for.

More likely it'll be through trust and/or overseas company. You put your farmland into a trust, put that into a company registered in Belize with some figurehead CEO, then transfer the control of the company to your children when you're old or dead.
