I'm surprised they haven't already

Wouldn't surprise me if they eventually did ban them.
These governments are looking for anything and everything that they can in order to make their citizens defenseless and completely reliant on the Government for everything.
Just think of how much more difficult — if not outright close to impossible — it would be for a completely unarmed population to stage any sort of revolution against their government should they decide to go completely tyrannical in the future.
At the very least, the level of casualties necessary to facilitate a change in that situation would be massive.

I agree, but I'm not saying fighting back can't happen; all I'm saying is that it would require a significantly larger sacrifice to do so.
Being armed in itself is a natural deterrent to tyranny, in my opinion.
In all cases, it's still preferred that things be settled peacefully and through using the systems in place meant to protect the people.
Having to resort to violence should always be a last resort.

I use blades longer than 5 inches all the time when out camping or in the desert — both fixed blade and folders.
Also, "assualt style" knives? You realize aesthetic has absolutely nothing to do with functionality, right? It's the same silliness people use with regards to firearms. Just because it looks 'scary' doesn't mean it does anything functionally different from the ones that don't.
Why do people need "military" equipment? Because Governments exist and they have it. Not to mention that there are also plenty of people who are more than willing to harm others for their own self-interest. It's pretty simple really.

You want a more concrete example? The reason people need it is 2020.
There was 6+ months of nightly violent riots, where thousands of places were burned to the ground, causing more than $4 billion in damage (more than some natural disasters), tens of thousands of people injured (including over 2,000 police officers), over 30 deaths (including, ironically, 13 black Americans), and countless lives ruined. If you think people didn't dial 911 for emergency assistance from these violent mobs, then you're very much mistaken there, too. They did — and the response they were given was that there was nothing that could be done.

That's reason enough. It's not exclusive to 2020 either. Back during the 1992 L.A. riots, many people experienced the same thing. Because of the close proximity, the Chinese/Korean Americans were affected tremendously. So what did they do? They formed fully armed community groups to protect their livelihoods themselves; that's where the "rooftop Koreans" meme came from. Even in 2020, places where people did the same and formed groups to protect themselves were far better off than the places where they didn't.

History has made it explicitly clear many times that when things go bad, there absolutely won't be anyone to help you — besides yourself and perhaps those in your community. You put far more faith in the Government than I would ever be comfortable with — given their track record.
Much like with the "Drug War," those who want something will find a way to get it.
There's nothing wrong with law-abiding citizens preparing themselves and making sure that they're protected in the event that they need to be.

It makes sense looking at it that way, but I think you'd be surprised how often I've heard the same thing from countless others. So it's hard to tell. lol

First priority is probably to pass some more hate speech laws to prevent people from talking about the attack.

I lived literally across the street from that store up until Jan 2020. Lots of the good lord’s saintly, humble peace-loving anointed immigrants there.

And yes, before they’d even finished reporting the story the media were already tripping over the classics we all know and love:

Muh lone wolf.

Muh they are us.

Muh one fanatic doesn’t represent an entire ethnic group.

Had the attacker been some dipshit white dude tired of lockdowns we’d be in for six weeks of in depth analyses on the rise of white supremacy and systemic racism in the 21st century 🤦🏼

Time to go into lockdown until all white people are inoculated against anti-muzzie racism

I just imagined they literally followed him around all that time since 2016. Gangstalking but real.

There's a grocery store near me that lets you pay to have your produce cut at the store by an employee. Sometimes I wonder what the endgoal of such a service is.
