And feds.
If American and Southwest are going against then it'll be interesting to see if United is able to stand with their position.
All three of them are TWU shops. Either the union isn't taking a strong position, or United was hoping for solidarity that didn't materialize.
We'll see.
Irrelevant, since most of us probably won't be allowed on planes at all soon.
And that makes me want to fedpost, but I'll refrain. For real, though, shit is fucked.
We already aren’t. Try going on a plane right now they will kick you off unless you dress up like a leftist.
I’m kind of sad about it because I loved air travel. I would arrive to airports early, go to the lounges, explore the airports. But never again it seems.
I suppose if I ever become filthy rich I could at least fly again with a private plane, but that’s only part of the fun. And I doubt that’s happening. We are even banned from trains.
Car is the only way right now. At least until they decide to ban that and arrest anyone caught driving who doesn’t install the camera and microphone surveillance system.
Things are accelerating so quickly, and it's worse than 99% of people realize. Probably myself included.
Did you hear some dark money funded "progressive" thug congressman from NY has put forward a bill to ban unvaccinated people from all air travel? That's in official channels now.
Domestic vaccine passports are also coming, much sooner than people think.
I never flew too much but, yeah, airports are cool, and it's a novel experience. Always enjoyed it.
I assume you know that because what you said was so specific, but that's in the "infrastructure bill." Also, all new cars will have to have location and mileage trackers, and apparently systems in place so they can bill you by the mile. Also, if you apply slippery slope logic, we'll likely see Australia-style "you can't be further than X from your house" thing. With the systems they're putting in place, they could shut your car off if you get five miles from home, or they could simply start charging you more in taxes, or something.
This shit is so over the line, and I'm not sure a peaceful outcome is still on the books at this point.
I'm getting worried that my work is going to start forcing it.
The police union is fighting the state government's requirement that they wear masks for their full shift in a state that has zero community transmissions and no covid restrictions other than interstate/international travel requiring 2 weeks quarantining. It will be interesting to see the outcome of that case
Probably a bad decision, but maybe we should invest in those to show support?
Southwest kicked a passenger off even though she complied with wearing a mask because "That's what happens when you don't say you're sorry."
Delta kicked a passenger off because she talked to another passenger that wasn't wearing his mask properly and therefore was guilty by association and banned the SEAL who killed Bin Laden.
American is probably the best of the bunch as far as this, but that's not saying much. They are giving employees who get vaccinated an extra vacation day and a $50 gift card. Here's a quote from their CEO from a NYT interview:
And when you look beyond just the vaccine issue specifically, for example, American has been fighting Texas over the voting integrity law there. (Delta has also been fighting Georgia over their law.) All three voiced support for BLM.
So the answer isn't no, it's hell fucking no, they don't deserve our support. They are enemies of the American people just as United is.
Which makes me think they only walked this back because they're already bleeding employees due to the unemployment cash train and more threatened to walk or get forcibly fired if they went through with it. I can only speculate, but if bargin airlines like SW are walking this back then it might have been a substantial number.
I think you might be right, but it’s worth noting that Southwest isn’t really a bargain airline like they used to be. In some ways (free bags) they behave more like the legacy carriers used to than the legacy carriers themselves do now.
The real bargain carriers are the likes of Frontier (mandating vaccines), Spirit (not mandating), and Allegiant (hasn’t said either way). I think that variation says a lot.
If you're lucky, you won't be that guy.
Yeah, I've had to spend 12+ hours in an airport waiting on my delayed flight. Might not have been in pajamas, but I was definitely that guy.
They are giving customers the service they are willing to pay for.
