Which makes me think they only walked this back because they're already bleeding employees due to the unemployment cash train and more threatened to walk or get forcibly fired if they went through with it. I can only speculate, but if bargin airlines like SW are walking this back then it might have been a substantial number.
I think you might be right, but it’s worth noting that Southwest isn’t really a bargain airline like they used to be. In some ways (free bags) they behave more like the legacy carriers used to than the legacy carriers themselves do now.
The real bargain carriers are the likes of Frontier (mandating vaccines), Spirit (not mandating), and Allegiant (hasn’t said either way). I think that variation says a lot.
