some sort of political philosophy that the government ought not ever do anything at all
That's not fair! We at ConInc have always worked hard to pass generous tax breaks and subsidies for our corporate donors. Need an onerous regulation removed? ConInc's got your back. Knowing how to maximize your earnings in the next mega-spending bill - that's true liberty.
For example a lot of the right isn't against things like nationalized healthcare per se, but they hear lefties talk about all the reasons why they might want to refuse someone access to healthcare for not being left-wing enough and oppose the policy on those grounds.
I always thought healthcare would have been more favorable to conservatives had they framed it as charity, instead of a right that suddenly the government created.
Healthcare would be more favorable to conservatives if they knew they wouldn't have to pay for illegal aliens, abortions, transgender surgeries for children, and whatever new degenerate thing the left comes up with every 5 years.
Yes there's a lot of insider football problems with the healthcare industry as well. Just the basic fact that there isn't any negative feedback in the system to encourage people to stop receiving or reduce the amount of medical care they're receiving is a huge problem that causes healthcare costs to spiral out of control. It's more in the system's interest that an 800 pound man stay 800 pounds and receive all the treatments necessary to keep him alive at that weight than to tell him to lose 650 pounds.
But people like my mom don't care about that. They care that her mom has to spend $XXXX on the pills she needs but some dude gets his dick chopped off for free because he thinks he's a woman. Or that they had to wait X months for some procedure while there's free clinics for illegal aliens that for some reason we aren't deporting. Basic fairness stuff for people who are paying into a system that seems more interested in catering to people who don't.

And fatties. Don't forget fatties.
