Not super shocked there. While they seem to be culturally resistant to wokeness, it's not a place I would have put high on the list for respect of personal freedom.

Hive minded group think. Surprised they haven't fallen to Communism already tbh.

They got a lucky break when student Otoya Yamaguchi assassinated chairman of the Japanese Socialist Party Inejirō Asanuma in 1960. Without his leadership, the Socialist party lost its growing power and eventually fell to infighting.

Yamaguchi is a hero, unironically. Still wound up with socialized healthcare and some mixed econ bs but overall they made it out in one piece.

Do we have a list of the countries requiring it? I’m very curious. Maybe we should sticky something we can refer to easily.

Yeah he reminds of a neocon tbh. Japan can't do anything with their military that isn't defensive in nature, btw, they can't even have bombers. Only way to do that is to change their constitution and the Japanese won't allow and don't want it, they've grown soft and domesticated since WW2 and are extremely anti-war period due to the A-bombs leaving a phycological scar on the nation. The majority see the JSDF as a well armed semi international FEMA at this point and want them to ONLY do humanitarian work. When a Japanese citizen, who was working as a merc for some PMC, was killed by terrorists they blamed him and were more worried about terrorism coming to Japan then a countryman's death. Same with that freelance video journalist that was beheaded, his fault and he got what he deserved for his naïveté. The Government actually billed his family for the cost of body retrieval and shipping it home, which is fucking disgusting......They're a great people but they're also incredibly naïve, they think they're safe on their island fortress and that no one will bother them if they don't stick their noses out or make waves, until the angry red dragon cracks their fortress open. And the eagle might not be able to or care to save them either.

I laugh at people who point to the JSDF when I say Japan doesn't have a proper army. They wouldn't last a week without intervention from one of their bigger allies, and they seem perfectly happy without that responsibility. Which is the point, just don't pretend Japan has the military capacity to maintain true independence.

It really depends. I trained with their JSDF in 2012 and they're quite good, if something went down they'd fight to the last. That said, they're a small force and too focused on naval superiority even though they have some excellent terrain and regions that would be Nam 2.0 for any country if they focused their ground forces on asymmetrical and guerilla warfare, they could last at least a year, but the ground forces are primarily focused on blitz style, hit and pull back then hit again, regular warfare. Their air force should be superior to China's but that's a numbers game like their navy and you can't really hit and run then hide in the air or water.

Pretty much. Looking elsewhere as I'm typing this to book a vacation, Thailand or Malaysia seem nice and are way cheaper.

They're already there, Specifically in Tokyo and Osaka. Leftist foreigners organized the BLM rally last year and just had a LGBT march and BLM march last week in Tokya with around 2-3k people showing up, granted 95% were foreigners but the % of Japanese grew somewhat since the BLM rally last year......Only saving grace is the majority of young Japanese people who voted, voted for the LDP their right wing party. Though it looks grim for LDP due to covid and Suga getting shit on for slow vaccine rollouts after Abe resigned to to ulcerative colitis complications.

The vax rate of japanese is something like 1%, so vax passports for a country of unvaccinated sounds like a token.

Another variant of the article can be found here for those who couldn't read it before:

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/06/17/national/vaccine-passports-travel-japan/

And yes, Japan itself it not requiring people coming to Japan to get the jab "out of concern that such a move could lead to criticism of discrimination against those who haven’t been inoculated for various reasons." But a vaccine passport using a vaccine that has been in development in less than a year is still a bad precedent.

As is the intent.

The Great Reset is neo-serfdom: only the self-proclaimed masters own anything with the common rabble either renting or in a perpetual debt cycle, electric vehicles to limit travel range, leisure being a rarity for the layman, and no chance for upward mobility.

That is strange and sad. For a while it looked like the govt was actively and purposely slowing down giving the citizens the vax . How will the citizens react though i know a lot dont trust the vax.

Fear and groupthink, they'll get the vax because everyone else is or so they think. Plus travel will be easier and alot want to visit Europe over the US now since all the anti-Asian crimes. Some bands and artists have even cancelled doing anything US related and are doing Euro tours due to the perceived uptick in violent assaults on Asians.....Which on a side note fucking sucks, I want to see Mary's Blood again but their guitarist is terrified of being attacked while Asian (Went on record in an interview saying she's afraid of going to the US now) so she wants to tour Europe instead.

Easy for her: just don’t tour in Chicago, Baltimore, or any other dinndu-saturated hellhole, and she’ll be perfectly fine.

Problem is Japanese bands typically tour US cities due to their labels parent company owning venues in those cities so it's free or much cheaper to use and guess where 3 of the venues she'd play in are, Seattle, NYC and LA.
