Kotaku is a shitty gaming blog famous for left wing politics. This community was created to fight against it, but the mods became drunk on power and we ended up with this sub here, which is why it's KotakuInAction2.
Don’t lie, we’re the bastard, degenerate offspring of KIA who enjoy our mods being gay, not faggots. I still remember getting a trial ban for arguing that my text post on colleges pushing pedophilia didn’t need a point list on why it should be an approved post.
What's with the red haired gamer girl? That have a story. She have a name?
Her name is Vivian James. Named to sound like video games. And there is a story.
Reddit's KotakuInAction became a hub for the GamerGate consumer revolt that started in 2014. The consumer revolt started when many video game journalists put out articles declaring "Gamers are Dead" and "Gamers don't have to be your audience".
The journalists did this as a response to the Quinspiracy. The Quinspiracy revolved around Zoe Quin, a game developer, who was sleeping with video game journalist Nathan Grayson while she received positive coverage from him. And Nathan Grayson did not disclose that they were close with each other while covering her, while covering stories about Zoe Quin & Zoe Quin's video game.
GamerGate & Quinspiracy are not the same thing but they are very connected. At the time, there was some group, I don't know if it was a company or non-profit or whatever it was called The Fine Young Capitalists. They were crowd funding on crowd fund website KickStarter to fund a contest for female game developers, they were going to help at least one female game dev that won the contest, develop a game.
Well apparently Zoe Quinn and TFYC had a beef with each other over the Tranny issue. TFYC were ok with Trans "Women" but only if they could prove they have trans for X amount of months, they did not want some guy to just call themselves trans for the purpose of winning the award that the TFYC made for women. This wasn't good enough for Zoe Quinn so she threw alot of shade at TFYC.
Anyways, as people who were concerned about the Quinspiracy kept getting slandered as women-haters, a movement began on 4 Chan's /v/ board (which is a video game board) to donate money to the TFYC's KickStarter about the contest. I think one of the KickStarter goals involved TFYC making someone's custom character. People on 4 Chan came up with Vivian James to be put into a game by TFYC. That is why alot of depictions of Vivian have 4 leaf clover, 4 Chan's symbol, in her hair. The Green & Purple colors come from inspiration of those being the same colors used by the Women's suffrage movement.
So that is the story of how Vivian James came to be. After GamerGate, GamerGate discussion would be censored on 4 Chan along various sub-reddits, making KIA1 one of the first GamerGate hubs. There is more history since, but that is the start of things.
Kotaku is a shitty video game publication with journalistic standards in line with things like HuffPost, MSNBC, and WaPo. So, really just subversion propaganda.
The "InAction" part is from the creation of the sub during the whole GamerGate thing. The "2", good luck, that gets asked about once a month. Something about mods being fags.
If you aren't familiar with GamerGate, maybe someone who's been around longer can give a synopsis. You can't really research it, as all the propaganda outlets describe it as you'd expect with all their race baiting and comparison to Nazi stuff.
If you can find The Joey Post, it's a word-for-word transcription of the original The Zoe Post about the entire situation, except the names were swapped and genders of the offenders were swapped, in order to get leftists to actually read it, since then it is a story about an evil toxic male abusing a woman psychologically while cheating on her.
Zoe's behavior is what got me on the "manosphere"/MRA side. It also helped me realize that the "problems" we're dealing with now is not just one thing.
Some people try to shoehorn their beliefs into one or two "problems" that must be addressed and if we do address those "problems" we'll finally achieve our utopia - to the manosphere, it is addressing gynocentrism, and if one simply repeals the 19th Amendment a majority of our problems will be gone.
To libertarians, abolishing government would achieve our utopia. To the 1488'ers, doing something about ( ( ( T H E M ) ) ) would achieve our utopia. All of societies ills can be easily blamed on one group of people or another.
After GG started, I came to realize it's a whole bunch of moving parts that feed upon each other. You can easily link a whole bunch of shit to each other if you try hard enough because one belief can sometimes lead to another belief. Sometimes the groups are related, but sometimes we got standalone complexes as well.
Like it never occurred to me, for example, to link the goals of the manosphere, who are mostly concerned with their primary enemy (feminism and gynocentrism) with say, libertarians who just want to be left the fuck alone, for example, but because of the multi-disciplinary nature and scope of the far left and how fucks like Zoe were PROTECTED by them they've made enemies out of multiple disparate groups.
1- Depression Quest got coverage, not reviews (while I haven't personally verified this point, that theres apparently "no review" is the go-to gotcha when people come to whiteknight Quinn)
2- Eron Gjoni (the ex) is alive and well. Alec Holowka, dev for Night in the Woods is the guy who killed himself after Zoe started #metooing him.
Also important to point out Zoe Quinn is an alias, she comes from a wealth family and quite a lot of the nonsense around her likely stems from people being opportunistic.
Gamergate is really simple: Some journalists were caught giving good press to games developed by someone they were close with, and instantly jumped to cover up and blame anyone who caught on to this rather than transparently express the fuckup.
Everything from rapidly plummeting opinions on journalists to requirements to state that promotion is paid for in videos is a result of this fuckup, but it's not done yet.
Ask all the questions you want. Trust me, people here love to explain it. Hell, most of em have a copy pasta. Just be prepared for a lot... like, a lot a lot. Frankly, I'm surprised you found the .win community of it and not already be knee deep in it.
Everyone else seems to have covered all the important points, the scummy game journos and bad SJW writing at Kotaku, Gamergate, the Day Of Dead Gamers, JournoListPros, 5Guys, mass censorship from even 4chan...
So one final minor thing: The logo/banner has a red-haired girl in jeans with a purple and green shirt. She's Vivian James. She was created when 4chan saw a Feminist video game dev competition run by The Fine Young Capitalists (TFYC). TFYC were fundraising for a prize pool for the best games made by young women, featuring women, and they had patreon/kickstarter-style rewards. A very high reward was "make the winning dev include your own character in their game". 4chan's /v/ board asked in a hivemind if they could "pool" donations to reach that reward, and it was granted. But instead of trolling, or rather, the troll was meta, they made a legitimate character who was more or less unimpeachable: Vivian James ("Video Games" rhyme intentional). She has the Daily Dose meme as her shirt, the 4-chan and 8-chan symbols as hairpins, and a sunken black-eyed face from too many late nights playing games in poor lighting. Long sleeves, shapeless sweater, long pants, messy hair, about as unsexualized as you can get.
And she was included in that winning Feminist game. TFYC upheld their end of the bargain. Since then she's been a bit of an icon for the dead gamers. SJWs hate her, mostly because their common complaints of sexualization and objectification don't work well, but they certainly try anyways!
Dude I don't blame him at all for working at Google. I just started working there, it's like being a receptionist for the KGB, you get paid a fuckton to do basically nothing, and when you're done it opens so many doors. Sometimes you gotta put your morals aside to get ahead. That's life.
Even if you don't end up in the gutter, what you've done by compromising morals is still wrong.
The ends don't justify the means.
This is why moral people "lose" in the short term to immoral people. Only in the long game, which may be longer than your lifetime, is uprightness rewarded. And this is why every sound society (healthy societies don't die) has promoted morality.
There are some things in life you can't control, rejecting a life-changing job over some dubious "morals" is retarded. I can't believe you compared collecting a salary from Google to accepting bribes. You didn't even bring up what his job even was.

And estrogen pills.
Would explain the hatred they had for me.
Isn't Kotaku just a mod of otaku--a fan as I understand it.

Thank you gamergate chronicler!

Bravo!
I almost forgot about the whole Five Guys thing.

Couple things wrong there;
1- Depression Quest got coverage, not reviews (while I haven't personally verified this point, that theres apparently "no review" is the go-to gotcha when people come to whiteknight Quinn)
2- Eron Gjoni (the ex) is alive and well. Alec Holowka, dev for Night in the Woods is the guy who killed himself after Zoe started #metooing him.
What's worse is that fucker STILL has a job.
Honestly, I agree. I guess I've seen it pointed out too many times in GG recaps, but it's far too late in the discourse to matter.
Also important to point out Zoe Quinn is an alias, she comes from a wealth family and quite a lot of the nonsense around her likely stems from people being opportunistic.

I'm surprised they didn't make a trans one. Or turn her lesbian.
moot may be a cuck, but at least he believed in having multiple facets to our lives and keeping them separate
can't be canceled when your personas are distinct
He ducked out and yes... it wouldnt be far fetched to think he got mkultra'd.
