It’s been very disappointing to see country music bending the knee to the woke mob

I'm actually surprised that out of all the genres out there, country music would bend the knee. Isn't their main audience on the more religious and conservative side? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Country has been trying to get the mainstream pop audience for years now. Dixie Chicks in the 90s, Florida Georgia Line now. No more traditional country, no more outlaw country, now their strategy is "See coastal lib? I'm just like you, except with a funny accent and mannerisms!"

Yea I love me some classic country. I remember when the Dixie chicks said what they did I was like she has every right to say it but she knows the majority of her fans are more conservative. Of course she was praised for being “brave”. If I was a rapper and got backlash for encouraging intact families and calling out race hustlers I’m sure the media would support me.

I'm going to sing about my pick up truck! I'm just a working man, never mind that I've never had a real job!

It's pop with a (usually fake) southern accent.

Ironic you make this comment in this thread. Big & Rich's biggest hit always sounded like a clear attempt at pop crossover. Not that im complaining, its a fun, cheesy song.

Their preferred target audience has been the "suburban cowboy" who works in an office, drives a truck with all the options but never uses it for "work", and thinks a couple acres is a lot of land, for decades at this point. They HATE the association with rednecks/hilljacks because of the stereotype that they're poor,. Even though they tend to be the ones that work their asses off and don't have the fancy, new stuff simply because "we don't really need that".

I don't follow pop culture at all, despite liking country... Can you give me an example or two? No need to source, just off the top of your head

Well you hear about the need for diversity in country. There are fans of country of all races but if the majority of the fan base is white there is nothing wrong with that. There was a young country star who was taking about how she was disappointed in the lack of progressive ideas in the fan base. Also a black female singer who I liked started talking about racism after the death of Floyd when she hadn’t talked about it before. She won a Grammy recently. Now maybe it was a coincidence but a lot of award shows have lost credibility in my eyes

Country music has been pop music in a cowboy hat for years and years.

Country music is garbage. It's corporate nonsense trash, normally about either trucks, rivers, or boots. Maybe something about a girl.

This is why I don't respect Country, but I do respect Folk and Bluegrass.
