What did happen to the Aztecs after the conquistadors left? I understand a few of them were killed in battles, and a lot more were killed by disease, but are there any sources that enlighten us on what happened with those that survived?
I don't know the details, but the long and short of it is the the Spanish lead an army of other Indian nations that were mad as hell at the Aztecs. They got crushed and the survivors disappeared or got disappeared.
Most of them? Smallpox.
That was the big killer of American Indians, and most of them in the century after 1492.
